Starting the multicomponent training sessions with aerobic-based exercises or resistance-based exercises may have different effects on functional fitness and body composition. Thus, the aim of this study was to assess the effects of the order of exercises in elderly women's physical fitness and body composition by multicomponent training. A sample of 91 elderly females, aged between 60 and 81, were randomly divided into three groups (A, B, C). Each group performed the following order of exercises: Group A consisted of warm-up followed by aerobic training, strength training, stretching and cool down; Group B consisted of warm-up followed by strength training, aerobic training, stretching and cool down; while the control group (C) did not perform any exercise. Functional fitness and body composition were assessed at 3 moments of the 32 weeks (baseline and after each 16-week) intervention. One-way ANOVA for comparison between groups, ANOVA for repeated measures and multiple linear regression were used for statistical analysis. The results showed that the functional fitness and body composition varied over the 32 weeks of multicomponent training. However, group A seems to show higher improvements in more variables. In the current study, group A obtained better results in most of the evaluated parameters. Thus, to improve functional fitness, warm-up, followed by aerobic training, strength training and relaxation may be the most suitable training for elderly women.

This review summarizes the mechanism and role of physical activity in maintaining the proper functioning of the musculoskeletal system. Bone adaptation to the mechanical environment occurs in skeletal regions subjected to the greatest stresses resulting from the nature of exercise, however, there is a varied response of bone tissue to mechanical loads depending on its material and structural properties (trabecular and cortical). The regulation of bone tissue metabolism during physical exercise is influenced by factors associated with mechanical stress (gravitational forces, impact loading, and muscular contractions) as well as by systemic mechanisms (hormones, myokines, cytokines).

Background: Brain endothelial cell (EC) stress, including that induced by vascular amyloid β (Aβ) deposits in cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) and Alzheimer's disease (AD), contributes to cerebral blood flow impairment, blood brain barrier (BBB) damage, neurovascular unit dysfunction, microhemorrhages and hypoperfusion, precipitating neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation processes. Epidemiological and experimental evidence suggests that hyperhomocysteinemia (Hhcy) contributes to increasing AD risk as well as CAA pathology. However, the cellular and molecular mechanisms through which Aβ and Hhcy drive EC and BBB dysfunction, whether the molecular effects of these challenges are additive or independent, and possible therapeutic strategies, remain to be determined.

Background: ApoE4 is the strongest genetic risk factor for late onset Alzheimer's Disease (AD). However, ApoE4 has also been suggested to exhibit antagonistic pleiotropy, a phenomenon by which some allelic variations of a gene promote fitness during certain periods of life but may be detrimental in others. Previous work suggests that ApoE4 carriers exhibit superior performance on executive function tasks in early and middle age, while later in life (>70 years) ApoE4 carriers experience greater cognitive decline across multiple domains.
