Gingivitis is a very common oral disease highly prevalent in adults that, if left untreated, can progress to periodontitis. It involves a complex and slow interaction between the host response and the oral microbiome represented by the dental plaque. The inflammation of the gingiva is associated with the activation of pathological angiogenesis and the existence of a high number of newly formed blood vessels quantified as microvessel density (MVD). The present study includes a number of 51 gingival biopsies from patients with different gingival indexes (GI): GI = 0, = 12; GI = 1, = 15; GI = 2, = 16; and GI = 3, = 8, processed and stained with the routine hematoxylin-eosin method. The inflammatory infiltrate was scored, the blood vessels were detected with anti-CD34 antibody, and MVD was determined. Inflammatory changes were observed in 39 of the 51 cases included in our study. CD34 + vessels with normal morphological appearance were observed in all 12 cases of health gingiva. In cases of inflammatory lesions, the morphology of the blood vessels showed changes with the evolution of gingival lesions. In severe inflammation, a particular aspect was observed in the vessels, such as the presence of the phenomenon of intussusception. MVD increases with the severity of gingival lesions, with the highest density being observed in severe inflammation.

Intraluminal prosthetic graft thrombus (IPT) has been described in case of endovascular aortic pathology repair. This study aimed to assess hemodynamic indicators associated with various anatomical morphologies following endovascular aortic repair (EVAR), aiming to offer further references for the choice of clinical therapy. Six model models (normal, iliac compression, aortic compression, aortoiliac compression, iliac distortion, and long-leg stent) were established based on common anatomical morphologies following EVAR.

Despite decades of improvements in cytotoxic therapy, the current standard of care for locally advanced pancreatic cancer (LAPC) provides, on average, only a few months of survival benefit. Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT), a technique that accurately delivers high doses of radiation to tumors in fewer fractions, has emerged as a promising therapy to improve local control of LAPC; however, its effects on the tumor microenvironment and hypoxia remain poorly understood. To explore how SBRT affects pancreatic tumors, we combined an orthotopic mouse model of pancreatic cancer with an intravital microscopy platform to visualize changes to the in vivo tumor microenvironment in real-time.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a serious medical condition that causes a failure in the right heart. Two-pore channel 2 (TPC2) is upregulated in PAH, but its roles in PAH remain largely unknown. Our investigation aims at the mechanisms by which TPC2 regulates PAH development.

To investigate the correlation between fetoplacental circulation and maternal left ventricular myocardial work (MW) parameters in patients with preeclampsia (PE) and the prediction of fetal hypoxia. Seventy-eight PE patients (PE group) were assigned to intrauterine-hypoxia (27) and non-intrauterine-hypoxia (51) groups, and 45 healthy pregnant women were controls. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve evaluated the diagnostic efficacy of each parameter for fetal intrauterine hypoxia.

In this study, we aimed to assess the effects of enhanced external counterpulsation (EECP) and individual shear rate therapy (ISRT) on peripheral artery function in patients with lower extremity atherosclerotic disease (LEAD). We randomly assigned 45 LEAD patients to receive 35 sessions of 45 min of EECP (n = 15), ISRT (n = 15), or sham-control (n = 15). Flow-mediated dilation in the brachial artery (brachial-FMD); 6-min walk distance; blood flow in the popliteal, posterior tibial, anterior tibial, and dorsalis pedis arteries; and plasma levels were measured before and after the 7 weeks treatment.
