Objective: This study examines the individual and combined association of BMI and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) with CVD risk using genetic scores of the obesity measurements as proxies.

Design: A 2 × 2 factorial analysis approach was applied, with participants divided into four groups of lifetime exposure to low BMI and WHR, high BMI, high WHR, and high BMI and WHR based on weighted genetic risk scores. The difference in CVD risk across groups was evaluated using multivariable logistic regression.

Setting: Cohort study.

Participants: A total of 408 003 participants were included from the prospective observational UK Biobank study.

Results: A total of 58 429 CVD events were recorded. Compared to the low BMI and WHR genetic scores group, higher BMI or higher WHR genetic scores were associated with an increase in CVD risk (high WHR: OR, 1·07; 95 % CI (1·04, 1·10)); high BMI: OR, 1·12; 95 % CI (1·09, 1·16). A weak additive effect on CVD risk was found between BMI and WHR (high BMI and WHR: OR, 1·16; 95 % CI (1·12, 1·19)). Subgroup analysis showed similar patterns between different sex, age (<65, ≥65 years old), smoking status, Townsend deprivation index, fasting glucose level and medication uses, but lower systolic blood pressure was associated with higher CVD risk in obese participants.

Conclusions: High BMI and WHR were associated with increased CVD risk, and their effects are weakly additive. Even though there were overlapping of effect, both BMI and WHR are important in assessing the CVD risk in the general population.

Betaine exhibits significant physiological functions in organisms and has positive impacts on obesity, alcohol-induced and metabolic-associated liver disease, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and certain cancers. However, the evidence from epidemiological studies is limited and inconsistent. This study aimed to investigate the association between dietary betaine intake and the incidence of overweight or obesity.

Purpose: There is a paucity of data on the safety and efficacy of long-term testosterone (T)-based gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) on anthropometric parameters, body composition, and glycolipid metabolism in assigned female at birth (AFAB) persons. The purpose of this study was to provide an updated meta-analysis on this topic.

Methods: We searched PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Library for relevant studies.

Objective: The purpose of this research intended to determine the impact of an multi-component exercise program on body composition and physical, emotional and social well being (PWB, EWB,SWB) in breast cancer survivors (BCS).  Methods: One hundred and thirty two eight women with BC were enrolled in this research based on inclusion and exclusion criteria and were randomized into group A and B. Group A received breast cancer (BC) support group therapy whereas group B received multi-component exercise program.

Background: Obesity is the primary cause of metabolic associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Healthy lifestyle management has potential value in the treatment of MASLD.

Methods: A total of 150 patients with MASLD diagnosed at the Health Management Center of our hospital were enrolled and randomly divided into a traditional treatment (control group, n=75) and healthy lifestyle group (observation group, n=75).

Background/objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between CRF (cardiorespiratory fitness) and body composition, specifically obesity indicators, in a sample of schoolchildren from the continental and Adriatic regions of the Republic of Croatia. Given that Croatia ranks among the leading countries in Europe in terms of obesity, it is believed that there is a need to combat this condition starting from school age. The usefulness of cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) lies in the fact that it is one of the indicators of children's overall health and is considered a measure of general health status.
