Hierarchically fractal Co with highly exposed active (002) facets, possessing a higher work function and more moderate hydrogen adsorption free energy, has been synthesized a template-free self-assembly method for the directed electron-transfer design of HER catalysts. It shows a great improvement in the HER activity in comparison with that of nanostructured Co.

Self-replication of molecules and microdroplets have been explored as models in prebiotic chemistry. An analogous process for inorganic nanomaterials would involve the autocatalytic nucleation of nanoparticles-an area that remains largely uncharted. Demonstrating such systems would be both fundamentally intriguing and practically relevant, especially if the resulting particles self-assemble.

Introduction: Biomineralization has been increasingly adopted for the synthesis of advanced materials with superior properties. Hierarchical architecture growth mimicking biomineralization has been studied using various organic molecules to template inorganic materials with controlled morphology. In our previous study, self-assembled Sr/CS/G(SrCO-chitosan-gelatin) aggregates were fabricated using electrophoretic deposition (EPD).

Inspired by mammal cranial sutures with spatiotemporal morphological variation, two-phase space-filling fractal metamaterial was designed. Designs with different levels of complexity are fabricated via multi-material polymer jetting. Mechanical tests and systematic finite element (FE) simulations are conducted to evaluate the mechanical performance of the designs.

This study addresses the inherent fragility and fractal limitations of traditional silica aerogels by developing a bio-templated aerogel fiber. Integrating cellulose nanofibers (CNFs), thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), and silica aerogel (SA) in a dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) dispersion, a gel-spinning technique was employed to create aerogel fibers with superior thermomechanical performance. CNF also provided excellent rheological modification for successful spinnability, fast gelation, and fiber formation.

Rapid drying of soil leads to its fracture. The cracks left behind by these fractures are best seen in soils such as clays that are fine in the texture and shrink on drying, but this can be seen in other soils too. Hence, different soils from the same region show different characteristic desiccation cracks and can thus be used to identify the soil type.
