Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising electrochemical materials that possess large specific surface areas, high porosities, good adjustability, and high activities. However, many conventional MOFs exhibit poor conductivity, which hinders their application in electrochemistry. In recent years, conductive MOFs (cMOFs) have attracted a considerable attention. As an important transition metal hydroxide, Ni(OH) nanosheets exhibit a high theoretical specific capacitance and a high energy density but a poor electrical conductivity. In this study, we combined a typical cMOF(Ni-HHTP, HHTP = 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxybenzene) with Ni(OH) nanosheets and synthesized a series of Ni-HHTP@Ni(OH) nanoarrays. The composite materials exhibit a high electrical conductivity and ionic transfer efficiency and a good stability. Most importantly, our study reveals the chemical interaction between cMOFs and metal hydroxide composites and the relationship between facet exposure and the growth orientation of cMOFs. When Ni-HHTP@Ni(OH)-2 was assembled as a positive electrode material in an aqueous asymmetric supercapacitor, 98% of the initial capacitance was maintained after 5000 cycles at a high current density of 3 A g. The findings of this study will provide meaningful insights into the design of cMOF composites combining other metal hydroxides.

Environmental exposure to metallic contaminants such as barium (Ba) is a worldwide concern, as these metals can even be toxic to the human body. Data on different sources of exposure to Ba and possible routes of entry are important for preventing adverse health effects. Blood Ba levels were evaluated in 10 localities in the cities of Barcarena and Abaetetuba in the Amazon.

Electrocatalysts alter their structure and composition during reaction, which can in turn create new active/selective phases. Identifying these changes is crucial for determining how morphology controls catalytic properties but the mechanisms by which operating conditions shape the catalyst's working state are not yet fully understood. In this study, we show using correlated operando microscopy and spectroscopy that as well-defined CuO cubes evolve under electrochemical nitrate reduction reaction conditions, distinct catalyst motifs are formed depending on the applied potential and the chemical environment.

Photocatalytic water disinfection technology is highly promising in off-grid areas due to abundant year-round solar irradiance. However, the practical use of powdered photocatalysts is impeded by limited recovery and inefficient inactivation of stress-resistant bacteria in oligotrophic surface water. Here we prepare a floatable monolithic photocatalyst with ZIF-8-NH loaded Ag single atoms and nanoparticles (Ag/ZIF).

Spatial and temporal (annual and decadal) trends of metal(loid) concentrations and loads in an acid mine drainage-affected river.

Acid mine drainage (AMD) is a worldwide problem that degrades river systems and is difficult and expensive to remediate. To protect affected catchments, it is vital to understand the behaviour of AMD-related metal(loid) contaminants as a function of space and time. To address this, the sources, loads and transport mechanisms of arsenic (As), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), iron (Fe) and sulfur (S) in a representative AMD-affected catchment (the Carnon River in Cornwall, UK) were determined over a 12-month sampling period and with 22 years of monitoring data collected by the Environment Agency (England) (EA).

Microorganisms that utilize organic matter to reduce Fe oxides/hydroxides constitute the primary geochemical processes controlling the formation of high-arsenic (As) groundwater. Biogenic secondary iron minerals play a significant role in As migration. However, the influence of quinone electron shuttles and competitive anionic phosphate on this process has not been thoroughly studied.
