Polydopamine (PDA)-modified NaErYbnanoparticles were synthesized, with strong NIR-II emission, quantum yield of 29.63%, and excellent photothermal performance. Crystal phases and microstructures are characterized. Optical properties such as absorption, NIR-II emission, and light stability are studied, and the luminescence mechanism is discussed in detail. Key factors in NIR-II imaging were evaluated in fresh pork tissue, including penetration depth, spatial resolution, and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). A high penetration depth of 5 mm and a high spatial resolution of 1 mm were detected. Mice are imaged in vivo afterinjection. Due to the accumulation of nanoparticles in the liver, high image quality with an SNR of 5.2 was detected in the abdomen of KM mice with hair. The photothermal conversion effect of PDA-modified NPs was twice that of the reported material. These NIR-II nanoparticles have superior optical properties, high photothermal efficiency and low cytotoxicity, and are potential fluorescent probes for further disease diagnosis and treatment.

Developing small organic molecular phototheranostic agents with second near-infrared (NIR-II) aggregation-induced emission (AIE) is paramount for the phototriggered diagnostic imaging and synchronous in situ therapy of cancer via an excellent balance of the excited states energy dissipations. In this study, a multifunctional iridium(III) complex is exploited by the coordination of an AIE-active N^N ancillary ligand with a trivalent iridium ion. The resultant complex DPTPzIr significantly outperforms its parent ligand in terms of absorption/emission wavelengths, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, and photothermal conversion, which simultaneously endow DPTPzIr nanoparticles with matched absorption peak to commercial 808 nm laser, the longest NIR-II emission peak (above 1100 nm) among those previously reported AIE iridium(III) complexes, potentiated type-I ROS generation, and as high as 60.

The successful development of a metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived Co/CoO/C core-shell composite integrated into laser-induced graphitic (LIG) carbon electrodes for electrochemical sensing is reported. The sensors are fabricated via a direct laser scribing technique using a UV laser (355 nm wavelength) to induce the photothermolysis of rationally selected ZIF-67 into the LIG matrix. Electrochemical characterization reveals that the incorporation of the laser-scribed ZIF-67-derived composite on the electrode surface reduces the impedance more than 100 times compared with bare LIG sensors.

In the field of solar steam generation, hydrogels with interfacial evaporation configurations stand as a promising candidate for solar evaporators. Hydrogel-based photothermal materials provide excellent hydration channels for supplying water to an evaporative layer due to their porous structure and hydrophilic nature. This work proposed a facile and in-situ fabrication of sodium alginate hydrogel incorporated with cellulose nanocrystals and polypyrrole as an effective photothermal material.

Solar-driven interfacial evaporation is one of the most attractive approaches to addressing the global freshwater shortage. However, achieving an integrated high evaporation rate, salt harvesting, and multifunctionality in evaporator is still a crucial challenge. Here, a novel composite membrane with biomimetic micro-nanostructured superhydrophobic surface is designed via ultrafast laser etching technology.

Antibiotic resistance has become a critical health crisis globally. Traditional strategies using antibiotics can lead to drug-resistance, while inorganic antimicrobial agents can cause severe systemic toxicity. Here, we have developed a dual-antibiotic hydrogel delivery system (PDA-Ag@Levo/CMCS), which can achieve controlled release of clinical antibiotics levofloxacin (Levo) and classic nanoscale antibiotic silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), effectively eliminating drug-resistant .
