Prioritizing physician wellness is crucial for ensuring high-quality patient care and reducing the risks of burnout, depression, and other mental health issues. Background: Despite progress in gender equality, female surgeons face unique career challenges. This dissertation explores the factors influencing female surgeons' careers, with the aim of identifying female surgeons' positive experiences, but also the obstacles they encounter, and the strategies they use to overcome challenges.
Methods: A qualitative research methodology was employed to understand the experiences of female surgeons working at a single healthcare facility in Western Australia.

Experiences of complex trauma and adversity, especially for children, are ongoing global crises necessitating adaptation. Bioadaptability to adversity and its health consequences emphasizes the dynamism of adaptation to trauma and the potential for research to inform intervention strategies. Epigenetic variability, particularly DNA methylation, associates with chronic adversity while allowing for resilience and adaptability.

Background: Frailty, a syndrome of decreased resilience to physiologic stress, has been associated with increased postoperative length of stay (LOS) for specific procedures. Yet, the literature lacks large-scale analyses examining the relationship between frailty and LOS across surgical procedure.
Study Design: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of patients aged 65+ undergoing inpatient surgery including emergency procedures between 2015 and 2019 using American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP®) data.

Background: Total hip (THA) and knee arthroplasty (TKA) rates in the outpatient setting continue to increase in the United States. Patient resiliency is one facet surgeons may consider when determining whether a patient would make a suitable candidate for same-day discharge (SDD). This study examined the relationship between resilience and success of SDD in patients undergoing primary THA and TKA.
