(Pleuronectiformes: Pleuronectidae) is a demersal flatfish found in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, China, and the Yellow Sea. complete mitochondrion DNA (mtDNA) consists of 16,921 bp and a 54% A + T content. It includes 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA), 13 protein-coding genes, and 1 non-coding regulatory area. ND2, ND3, ND4, COII, COIII, ATPase6, and CytB all have incomplete stop codon genes. The evolutionary analysis of 13 species from the same family indicated a close relationship. This work will be valuable for future research on molecular evolution and the creation of biomarker databases for determining the originality of .

In the present study, we evaluated the biological response of Achirus lineatus to water accommodated fraction (WAF) of light crude oil (American Petroleum Institute gravity 35°) during a sub-chronic bioassay (14 and 28 days) at two different concentrations: 5% v/v (1.20 µg∙L expressed as total polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons [∑25 PAH]) and 10% v/v (6.61 µg∙L [∑25 PAH]).

Dynamic camouflage is the capacity to rapidly change skin color and pattern, often for the purpose of background-matching camouflage. Summer flounder (Paralichthys dentatus) are demersal fish with an exceptional capacity for dynamic camouflage, but with eyes that face away from the substrate, it is unknown if this behavior is mediated by vision. Past studies have shown that summer flounder skin can match the pattern (i.

Endocrine patterns associated with ovarian development in female Pacific halibut (Hippoglossus stenolepis).

Gen Comp Endocrinol

February 2024

International Pacific Halibut Commission, 2320 W. Commodore Way, Seattle, WA 98199, USA. Electronic address:

The Pacific halibut (Hippoglossus stenolepis) is a large migratory demersal flatfish species that occupies a top trophic role in the North Pacific Ocean and Bering Sea ecosystems, where it also supports various fisheries. As a first attempt to characterize the endocrine mechanisms driving sexual maturation in this important species, we collected pituitary, ovarian and blood samples from Pacific halibut females captured in the wild that were classified histologically into various female developmental stages. We conducted gene expression analyses of gonadotropin beta subunits in the pituitary and observed that mRNA expression levels of fshb gradually increased throughout vitellogenesis, remained elevated until before ovulation and declined after spawning.

Two OR3 research vessel cruises were conducted at seven nearshore sites from north to south in the western coastal waters off Taiwan in May (late spring) and November (late autumn) 2019 in order to gain insights into the 2 °C difference in the tropical-subtropical fish fauna. Totally, 37 families, 72 genera, and 99 taxas were recorded for the 1809 fishes. Three fish assemblages, the North, South, and Fall-Zhuoshui River (ZRf) groups, were identified as eurythermal, stenothermal, and croaker communities.

Greenland halibut (Reinhardtius hippoglossoides) sustain one of the most lucrative fisheries in the eastern Canadian Arctic and Labrador Sea. This species also plays an important role in food web connectivity and benthic-pelagic coupling. Despite the relatively rich knowledge of this species, R.
