Unlabelled: Based on cleaner production and circular economy concepts, chars were produced through thermochemical conversion of grape bagasse and then used as adsorbents to uptake Cu(II) from aqueous media since Cu(II) is a common element found in fungicides to treat grapevines. The grape bagasse and char characteristics were investigated through several analytical techniques (TGA, SEM, XRD, FTIR, and BET). Three chars were obtained using different pyrolysis temperatures: 700, 800, and 900 °C. The materials had similar removal percentages and adsorption capacity. The char produced at 700 °C was chosen due to its lower production cost. Studies were conducted on the adsorbent dosage and pH effect, adsorption kinetics, isotherms, and thermodynamics. The most efficient dosage was 1.5 g L, and the pH was 5.5. The kinetic study showed that the equilibrium was reached in 60 min and the pseudo-second-order model presents the best fit. After the temperature influence study (25, 35, 45, and 55 °C), it was possible to verify that Cu(II) adsorption through char was favored at 55 °C. The Freundlich model showed the best fit for the experimental data. The highest removal percentage was 96.56%, and the high maximum adsorption capacity was 42 mg g. The thermodynamic study shows the adsorption as a spontaneous process, favorable, and endothermic.

The increasing issue of plastic waste necessitates improved solutions, and biodegradable food packaging is a promising alternative to traditional plastic. In this study, we prepared packaging films using cassava starch (CV), chitosan (CT) and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), with glycerol as a plasticizer. However, these films require modifications to enhance their mechanical properties.

The release of alkali metals (K, Na) and nonmetals (S, Cl) during a calcium looping (CaL) gasification process of waste derived-hydrochars, water-leached samples, and CaO-biomass blends was investigated. Special attention was paid to biomasses that are not particularly promising for gasification requirements but have a large occurrence in Europe, including Grape Bagasse, Organic Fraction of Municipal Solid Waste (OFMSW), Green Waste, and Out-of-use woods from construction debris and discarded furniture. The release experiments were performed at 650 °C in a flow channel reactor to investigate the behavior of inorganic trace substances.

In the wake of rapid industrialization and burgeoning transportation networks, the escalating demand for fossil fuels has accelerated the depletion of finite energy reservoirs, necessitating urgent exploration of sustainable alternatives. To address this, current research is focusing on renewable fuels like second-generation bioethanol from agricultural waste such as sugarcane bagasse. This approach not only circumvents the contentious issue of food-fuel conflicts associated with biofuels but also tackles agricultural waste management.

This work explores the development and characterization of composite multilayer films comprising bacterial cellulose (BC) and chitosan enriched with antioxidant compounds from grape bagasse extract (GE) and glycerol. SEM images revealed a compact structure with successful interactions between BC and chitosan, confirmed by FT-IR analysis. Equilibrium moisture content, water vapor permeability (WVP), swollen capacity, and solubility were systematically investigated, unveiling the influence of glycerol and GE concentrations.
