Metal pollution in rivers should not be overlooked before their entry into the sea. However, there are few studies for estimating such contamination in rivers entering the Algerian coastal waters. Semimonthly quantification of dissolved and particulate metals, near the mouths of two industrial-tainted rivers, El Harrach and Mazafran rivers, was carried out during a period of one year. All the trace metals analyzed are originating from anthropogenic sources (EF > 1.5), with higher contamination of dissolved Pb, Cd, Zn and Ni and a slight degree of contamination of particulate Cu and Zn (0 < I < 1). Particulate metals show a stable complex with the particulate phase (e.g. 2 < LogK < 6). The risk assessment results indicate that particulate Pb and Zn have a 33% likelihood of toxicity for adverse biological effects. A significant toxicity effect (ΣTUi >4) of the combined particulate metals (Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn, Cr, Ni and As) was primarily due to the higher particulate Cd, Zn, and Cr availability.

Near-natural restoration is acknowledged as an effective strategy for enhancing soil organic carbon (SOC) sequestration in degraded grasslands. However, the alterations in SOC fractions, stability, and relative sequestration capacity after restoration of degraded alpine meadows remain uncertain. In this study, we utilized the degraded alpine meadows on the northeastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau as a research area, with grazing as the control (CK) and restoration of 20 years of banned grazing (BG) and growing season resting grazing (RG).

In addition to traditional organophosphate esters (tOPEs), emerging organophosphate esters (eOPEs) have increasingly been detected in the environment, but their risks remain unclear. This study detected 12 tOPEs and 7 eOPEs in surface water, sediment, and suspended particulate matter (SPM) samples from important aquatic habitats and drinking water sources in Yibin (YB), Yichang (YC), Shanghai (SH), and Poyang Lake (PY) within the Yangtze River basin. The total concentration of OPEs (ΣOPEs) in surface water, sediment, and SPM from these four regions were 22.

Dimethyl sulfide (DMS) and dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) are important sulfur compounds influenced by community assemblages of plankton. The distributions of DMS, DMSP, DMSP lyase activity (DLA), DMSP-consuming bacteria (DCB), and community structures of phytoplankton and zooplankton were investigated during summer in the Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea. The variety ranges of DMS, dissolved DMSP (DMSP), and particulate DMSP (DMSP) concentrations in the surface seawater were 1.

Impacts of the acid mine drainage (AMD) remediation are investigated on the largest gold mine in Latin America, located in the Dominican Republic. Geochemical analysis of suspended matter in water performed in 2022 on water bodies located downstream to the mine, namely, the Margajita River and Lake Hatillo, are compared with analyses made in 2007, before the AMD remediation. The results for the Margajita River show a strong decrease in heavy metal and metalloid concentrations in the dissolved phase for Al, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Cd, Sb, and Pb (between 89.

This study analyzed the relationship between the oxygen minimum zone (OMZ) and various types of carbon, such as POC, DOC, and DIC, in the Y3 seamount area in the Western Pacific. The results indicated that the OMZ was located at 200-1000 m and a threshold of 100 μmol/kg was established for this area of the Western Pacific. The DOC and POC changed drastically out of OMZ while they were relatively stable within the OMZ due to the low oxygen.
