This work reports the first demonstration of the chemical reactions on the C-F groups of perfluorosulfonic acid polymers. The Nafion chains show chemical reactivity for atom transfer radical addition onto multiwalled carbon nanotubes and ability to serve as a macroinitiator for atom transfer radical polymerization. The C-F groups and mainchain -CF groups have been demonstrated, under a study with F NMR, as the active sites responsible for the reactions. The results could certainly extend both the scopes of chemistry and application of perfluorosulfonic acid polymers as well as the windows of atom transfer radical addition/polymerization to fluorinated compounds.

Isoindigo (IID)-based non-fullerene acceptors, known for their broad absorption spectra and high charge carrier mobilities, play a crucial role in organic photovoltaics. In this study, two A-DA'D-A type unfused ring acceptors (URAs), IDC8CP-IC and IDC6CP-IC, were designed and synthesized using cyclopentadithiophene (CPDT) and IID core units, each functionalized with different alkyl chains (2-hexyldecyl and 2-octyldodecyl), through an atom- and step-efficient direct C-H arylation (DACH) method. Both URAs, despite the absence of non-covalent conformation locking between CPDT and IID, demonstrated favorable molecular planarity, broad absorption ranges, low band gaps, and high molar absorption coefficients.

Based on density functional theory calculations, this study analyzed the gas-sensing performance of TiCT (T=O, F, OH) monolayers modified with precious metal atoms (Ag and Au) for HCHO and CH gas molecules. Firstly, stable structures of Ag- and Au-single-atom doped TiCT (T=O, F, OH) surfaces were constructed and then HCHO and CH gas molecules were set to approach the modified structures at different initial positions. The most stable adsorption structure was selected for further analysis of the adsorption energy, adsorption distance, charge transfer, charge deformation density, total density of states, and partial density of states.

C-C bond cleavage and recombination provide an efficient strategy for the modification and reconstruction of molecule structures. Herein, we present a method for achieving amidation of aryl C(sp)-H bond through the cleavage and recombination of C-C triple bond with the involvement of nitrous acid esters. This method marks the instance of precise and controlled stepwise cleavage of C-C triple bond, offering a fresh perspective for the cleavage of such bonds.

The functional properties of tetraaryl compounds, M(aryl) (M = transition metal or group 14 element), are dictated not only by their common tetrahedral geometry but also by their central atom. The identity of this atom may serve to modulate the reactivity, electrochemical, magnetic, and optical behavior of the molecular species, or of extended materials built from appropriate tetraaryl building blocks, but this has not yet been systematically evaluated. Toward this goal, here we probe the influence of Os(IV), C, and Si central atoms on the spectroelectrochemical properties of a series of redox-active tetra(ferrocenylaryl) complexes.
