The Janus kinase-signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK-STAT) signalling pathway is a key player in animal development and physiology. Although it functions in a variety of processes, the net output of JAK-STAT signalling depends on its spatiotemporal activation, as well as extensive crosstalk with other signalling pathways. Drosophila, with its relatively simple signal transduction pathways and plethora of genetic analysis tools, is an ideal system for dissecting JAK-STAT signalling interactions.

Background: To investigate and quantify the influence of body mass index (BMI) on the efficacy and outcomes of percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic surgery (PTES), a novel minimally invasive surgical technique in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH).
Methods: A total of 55 patients suffering from single-level LDH with or without high iliac crest, scoliosis or calcification, who underwent PTES in our department from January 2019 to December 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided into two groups according to BMI.

Purpose: Acute hand infections (AHIs) remain a challenge for hand surgeons and represent a condition for which clinical outcomes are considerably affected by social barriers. We previously described the looped Penrose drainage technique, where a drain is sutured to itself in a loop and the outflow tract of egress is maintained, thus obviating the need for large incisions, wound closure, or repeat packing, thereby reducing the follow-up burden. In the face of escalating numbers of socioeconomically vulnerable patients, especially in urban settings, we aimed to characterize the clinical features and outcomes of this technique in an urban population of patients with AHI.
