A new genus of minute stingless bees (Meliponini: Hypotrigonina) is described from Southeast Asia. Engel & Nguyen, , is based on the type species Engel, recorded from Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and southern China. The species was previously considered an enigmatic member of Moure, but is removed to a new genus based on its unique male terminalia that differs considerably from that of and instead shares resemblances with Moure, and the presence of yellow maculation (also similar to that of ). It is possible that is the extant sister group of , but this requires confirmation by future phylogenetic analyses. Based on available biological observations, could not be confirmed as lachryphagous as is well documented from the tear-drinking species of and Moure.

Relatively little is known of the host associations and compatibility of fungal plant pathogens and endophytes. Publicly available plant genomic DNA can be mined to detect incidental fungal DNA, but taxonomic assignment can be challenging due to short lengths and variable discriminative power among different genomic regions and taxa. Here, we introduce a computationally lightweight and accessible Snakemake pipeline for rapid detection and classification (identification and assignment to taxonomic rank) of pathogenic and endophytic fungi (and other fungi associated with plants) that targets the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region, a fungal barcode standard.

is a coral snake of public health concern in Colombia. Its venom is mainly composed of three-finger toxins (3FTxs), Mipartoxin-1 being the most abundant protein partially responsible for its lethal effect. In this work, we present the production of Mipartoxin-1 in a recombinant form and evaluate its immunogenic potential.
