We report the case of a 5-year-old who had interstitial invasion of his kidneys with group A (GAS). Glomeruli and tubules were relatively preserved. He recovered from this event and was admitted a couple of months later with dilated cardiomyopathy needing a heart transplant. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of direct invasion of renal interstitium by GAS.

Purpose: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic, progressive fibrotic lung disorder characterized by dry cough, fatigue, and exacerbated dyspnea. The prognosis of IPF is notably unfavorable, becoming extremely poor when the disease advances acutely. Effective therapeutic intervention is essential to mitigate disease progression; hence, early diagnosis and treatment are paramount.

Introduction: Diffuse pulmonary ossification (DPO) refers to the unusual formation of mature bone tissue within the lung parenchyma. It has been shown to be associated with a number of cardiac and chronic lung diseases. The relation between DPO and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) has been shown in the literature.

Setting up the correct diagnosis of interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS), a chronic inflammatory disease of the bladder, is a challenge, as there are neither diagnostic criteria nor reliable and non-invasive disease biomarkers available. The aim of the present study was to simultaneously determine matched serum- and urine-derived biomarkers of IC/BPS, which would provide additional insights into disease mechanisms and set the basis for further biomarker validation. Our study included 12 female patients with IC/BPS and 12 healthy controls.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the most prevalent cardiovascular risk factors in the general population, being associated with high morbidity and socioeconomic burden. Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a non-negligible complication of DM, whose pathophysiological fundaments are the altered cardiac metabolism, the hyperglycemia-triggered formation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) and the inflammatory milieu which are typical in diabetic patients. These metabolic abnormalities lead to cardiomyocytes apoptosis, interstitial fibrosis and mechanical cardiac dysfunction, which can be identified with non-invasive imaging techniques, like echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance.

A spontaneous pneumothorax may be the heralding manifestation of diffuse cystic lung disease (DCLD). Historically, these diagnoses were differentiated by unique clinical, radiographic and tissue pathology characteristics. With recent advancements in genomics, several forms of DCLD can now be diagnosed through genetic testing and patients can thereby avoid undergoing an invasive lung biopsy.
