There is a plethora of chromatographic supports available in different shapes, sizes, functionalities, and chemical compositions, that could be employed for the numerous applications such as purification, scavenging, and target quantification. Therefore, it becomes critical to understand the chemical nature of these materials to select optimum conditions for ligand immobilization. In this chapter, we have explained some commonly employed ligand immobilization techniques to graft the ligand on the resin surfaces. For a quick reference, we have also included some functionalities of the resins that are commercially available.

Phthalate esters (PAEs) are broadly utilized as plasticizers in industrial products, posing a significant threat to ecological security and human health. Lipase is a kind of green biocatalyst with the ability to degrade PAEs, but its application is limited due to its low stability and poor reusability. Herein, lipase from Candida rugosa (CRL) was immobilized into an organic ligand replacement MOFs (MAF-507) and cysteine modification and glutaraldehyde cross-linking were simultaneously performed to synthesize immobilized lipase (Cys-CRL@GA@MAF-507) using a one-pot method.

Improving the catalytic efficiency and recyclability of immobilized enzyme remained a serious challenge in industrial applications. Enzyme immobilization in the amorphous zeolite imidazolate framework (aZIF) preserved high enzyme activity, but still faced separation difficulties and a low catalytic efficiency in practice. In this study, a one-pot co-precipitation method was used to form the enzyme-aZIF/magnetic nanoparticle (MNP) biocomposite by rapidly precipitating snailase (Sna) and β-glucosidase (β-G) with metal/ligand on MNP and modifying with L-aspartic acid (Asp).

The continuous exposure of chemical pesticides in agriculture, their contamination in soil and water pose serious threat to the environment. Current study used an approach to evaluate various pesticides like Hexaconazole, Mancozeb, Pretilachlor, Organophosphate and λ-cyhalothrin degradation capability of esterase. The enzyme was isolated from Salinicoccus roseus.

Two or more protein ligands may compete against each other to interact transiently with a protein receptor. While this is a ubiquitous phenomenon in cell signaling, existing technologies cannot identify its kinetic complexity because specific subpopulations of binding events of different ligands are hidden in the averaging process in an ensemble. In addition, the limited time resolution of prevailing methods makes detecting and discriminating binding events among diverse interacting partners challenging.

Imperfections in metal halide perovskites, such as those induced by light exposure or thermal stress, compromise device performance and stability. A key challenge is immobilizing volatile iodine produced by iodide oxidation and regenerating impurities like elemental lead and iodine. Here, we address this by integrating a redox-active supramolecular assembly of nickel octaethylporphyrin into perovskite film, functioning as both an immobilizer and redox shuttle.
