There were respiratory consultant post vacancies in 82% of surveyed UK hospitals in 2021. Understanding respiratory trainees' career intentions is vital to plan and train a future respiratory workforce. In 2020, the British Thoracic Society surveyed trainee members (n=144) to assess career plans and perceived barriers and facilitators when applying for consultant posts. Most trainees (79, 55.6%) report intending to pursue UK-based posts with general internal medicine responsibilities. Consultant applications are influenced by location, hospital type, previous local experience and availability of subspecialty posts. Insufficient guidance is available regarding consultant applications.

Body composition measurements (BCM), obtained via computed tomography (CT), have been used as predictors of survival, tumour recurrence, and post-surgical infections in human oncology. There are no reports on using BCM to predict outcomes of dogs with cancer. Elevated BCM is hypothesised to place extra stress on bones weakened by cancer.

The mainstay of management for uncomplicated type B aortic dissection is currently optimal medical therapy, targeting blood pressure and heart rate, along with serial imaging. There is a paucity of data that informs whether early intervention with thoracic endografting in this group of patients will promote aortic remodeling and better long-term outcomes. Investigations to date, including the Investigation of Stent Grafts in Aortic Dissection (INSTEAD), INSTEAD-XL, and Acute Dissection: Stent Graft or Best Medical Therapy (ADSORB) studies, have compared thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) with optimal medical therapy in patients with uncomplicated type B aortic dissection but have not shown a benefit for TEVAR conclusively.

Objectives: To establish, within people with COPD, (1) whether ICS reduced MACE rates (acute coronary syndrome (ACS), heart failure (HF), ischaemic strokes or cardiovascular-specific death) compared with long-acting bronchodilators; and (2) whether drug class, incident usership or patient cardiovascular history influenced the ICS-MACE relationship.
Methods: We conducted a cohort study including patients with COPD in England, using Clinical Practice Research Datalink Aurum data, linked with Hospital Episode Statistics and Office of National Statistics death data, between 1 January 2010 and 31 December 2019.
