Objectives: Descending necrotizing mediastinitis (DNM) is the most serious complication of maxillofacial infections followed with high mortality. The objective of this retrospective study was to evaluate possible prognostic clinical factors for survival of patients with DNM based on single center clinical data.
Methods: The study enrolled patients admitted to the Emergency Center of Vojvodina with the diagnosis of DNM either as the primary diagnosis or with discharged diagnosis after surgical treatment during 11-years period. The data were obtained from patient medical records.
Results: After final analysis total of 28 charts were randomized for statystical analysis, 19 charts in survivors and 9 in non-survivors group. The most common cause of infection in survivors group was odontogenic and in non-survivors group pharyngeal infection. On multivariate regression analysis of collected data results of control computed tomography, preoperative Endo status, early postoperative C-reactive protein (CRP) and procalcitonine (PCT) values and postoperative complications were statistically significant predictors for mortality.
Conclusions: Based on results of this study, extent of infection in the mediastinum based on Endo's criteria, progression of infection on control cervicothoracic CT, increase of CRP and PCT values in immediate postoperative period and presence of postoperative complications and septic shock provide poor prognosis for patients with DNM.

Behçet's disease (BD) is a chronic, relapsing, systemic vasculitis of unknown etiology that affects blood vessels of all sizes, potentially leading to severe complications such as coronary artery aneurysms. This report describes the case of a 33-year-old woman with BD who presented with recurrent chest pain. Imaging revealed a large saccular aneurysm in the left anterior descending artery.

Introduction: Soft-tissue sarcomas arising in the thigh may require total or subtotal compartmentectomy, with subsequent need for functional reconstruction with free functional muscle transfer (FFMT). We present our series, describing a new approach with chimeric propeller antero-lateral thigh-vastus lateralis (ALT-VL) free flap, which allows for independent muscle inset and soft tissue defect resurfacing.
Patient And Methods: A retrospective review of a prospectively maintained database was performed, analyzing all patients referred to Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio-Medico, Rome, Italy, between 2018 and 2023 for soft-tissue sarcomas of the thigh requiring wide excision and reconstruction with functional ALT-VL.

Introduction: Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), which occur anywhere in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, typically occur in the stomach and small intestine but rarely in the duodenum. We present a case report wherein a descending duodenal GIST was treated with a limited, minimally invasive surgery after endoscopic nasobiliary drainage (ENBD) insertion.
Presentation Of Case: A 67-year-old woman visited our hospital with an incidentally discovered duodenal tumor.

This study aims to investigate the effect of Linggui Zhugan Decoction(LGZGD) on autophagy in the mouse model of chronic heart failure(CHF) induced by myocardial infarction(MI), as well as the regulatory effect of LGZGD on the hypoxia-inducible factor-1α(HIF-1α)/heme oxygenase-1(HO-1) signaling pathway, based on bioinformatics and animal experiments. The active ingredients and corresponding targets of LGZGD were retrieved from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology and Analysis Database, and GEO, GeneCards, and DisGeNET were searched for the disease targets. Cytoscape was used to establish a "drug-component-target" network.

Aim: Sympathetic overactivation may lead to severe ventricular arrhythmias (VAs) post-myocardial infarction (MI). The superior cervical ganglion (SCG) is an extracardiac sympathetic ganglion which regulates cardiac autonomic tone. We aimed to investigate the characteristics and functional significance of SCG on neuro-cardiac communication post-MI.
