Background And Purpose: This study aims to investigate the feasibility of a "real-time" estimate of the optimal CT perfusion (CTP) acquisition time (T ) in ischemic stroke patients.

Methods: The arterial input function, the venous output function (VOF), and the time-attenuation curves of ischemic core and ischemic penumbra of 51 patients with acute ischemic stroke in anterior circulation were obtained. The curves were analyzed to determine for each patient the T value; additionally, several time parameters were derived from each waveform. The relationship between each of these parameters and T was investigated.

Results: We found a strong linear correlation between each time parameter derived from VOF curve and T , suggesting that the VOF waveform is rescaled from patient to patient without significant change in shape.

Conclusions: The linear correlation between T and the VOF time to peak is well suited to implement a new technique to automatically customize the patient's CTP acquisition time. The method does not require an additional dose of contrast medium and does not increase the overall study time, so its use would be desirable to decrease the average radiation dose.

Droplet-Based EPR Spectroscopy for Real-Time Monitoring of Liquid-Phase Catalytic Reactions.

Small Methods

January 2025

Institute of Chemical and Bioengineering, Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences, ETH Zürich, Vladimir-Prelog-Weg 1, Zürich, 8093, Switzerland.

In situ monitoring is essential for catalytic process design, offering real-time insights into active structures and reactive intermediates. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy excels at probing geometric and electronic properties of paramagnetic species during reactions. Yet, state-of-the-art liquid-phase EPR methods, like flat cells, require custom resonators, consume large amounts of reagents, and are unsuited for tracking initial kinetics or use with solid catalysts.

Low noise and high repetition rate optical frequency combs are desirable for many applications, from timekeeping to precision spectroscopy. For example, gigahertz repetition rate sources greatly increase the acquisition speed of spectra in a dual-comb modality when compared to lower repetition rate sources, while still maintaining sufficient instantaneous resolution to resolve ro-vibrational signatures from molecules in a variety of conditions. In this paper, we present the stabilization and characterization of a turnkey commercial 1 GHz mode-locked laser that operates at telecom wavelengths (1.

Charge detection mass spectrometry (CDMS) allows direct mass measurement of heterogeneous samples by simultaneously determining the charge state and the mass-to-charge ratio (/) of individual ions, unlike conventional MS methods that use large ensembles of ions. CDMS typically requires long acquisition times and the collection of thousands of spectra, each containing tens to hundreds of ions, to generate sufficient ion statistics, making it difficult to interface with the time scales of online separation techniques such as ion mobility. Here, we demonstrate the application of Fourier transform multiplexing and drift tube ion mobility joined with Orbitrap-based CDMS for the analysis of multimeric protein complexes.

Background: Minimally invasive dentistry is now becoming the forefront of restorative dentistry, involving less traumatic treatment protocols, conservation of tooth structure and surrounding tissues, enhancing the long-term survivability of treated teeth, and improving the overall quality of life for patients.

Objective: The current case report was conducted to evaluate acquiring deep subgingival interproximal carious lesions by the mean of thermacut bur gingivectomy, in terms of patient satisfaction through pain evaluation, Bleeding on Probing, Pocket Depth, Crestal Bone Level evaluation, and restoration evaluation using modified USPHS criteria.

Material And Methods: A patient with a deep proximal cavity in the posterior tooth was thoroughly examined and underwent Thermacut Bur Gingivectomy (TBG) after caries removal followed by direct resin composite restoration of the prepared cavity.

Background And Objectives: Automated, anatomically coherent retinal layer segmentation in optical coherence tomography (OCT) is one of the most important components of retinal disease management. However, current methods rely on large amounts of labeled data, which can be difficult and expensive to obtain. In addition, these systems tend often propose anatomically impossible results, which undermines their clinical reliability.
