A novel kind of star triptycene-based microporous polymer (STPs) was synthesized efficiently from trihalotriptycenes by nickel(0)-catalyzed Ullmann cross-coupling reactions. STPs display a BET surface area of 1305 m g and 1990 m g, and reversibly adsorb 1.60 and 1.93 wt % H at 1.0 bar/77 K, 16.15 and 18.20 wt % CO at 1.0 bar/273 K for and , respectively.

Microporous polymer membranes are promising candidates for industrial membrane-based gas separation because of their high separation performance. However, their relatively low stability due to the local rearrangement of polymer chains during usage remains a problem. Hence, we propose the construction of a fully aromatic polymer structure in a microporous polymer membrane to enhance membrane stability.

Graphdiyne, an emerging carbon allotrope, has attracted many researchers devoted to the study of its synthesis and application. The utilization of graphdiyne in gas adsorption and separation has been predicted by computer simulation with many examples. In this work, the triangular basic unit of graphdiyne was introduced into a triptycene-based porous organic polymer to obtain a three dimensional graphdiyne-like porous triptycene network named G-PTN.

Nanostructured hypercrosslinked porous organic polymers have triggered immense research interest for a broad spectrum of applications ranging from catalysis to molecular separation. However, it still remains a challenge to tune their nanoscale morphology. Herein, we demonstrated a remarkable variation of morphologies of triptycene-based hypercrosslinked microporous polymers starting from irregular aggregates (FCTP) to rigid spheres (SCTP) to two-dimensional nanosheets (SKTP) from three distinct polymerization methodologies, Friedel-Crafts knitting using an external crosslinker, Scholl reaction, and solvent knitting, respectively.

Triptycene-based Chiral Porous Polyimides for Enantioselective Membrane Separation.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

June 2021

College of Life Science and Technology, National Engineering Research Center for Nanomedicine, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, 430074, China.

Enantiomers of 2, 6-diaminotriptycene (R, R-1 and S, S-1) are split by chiral-phase HPLC and their absolute configurations are identified by single-crystal X-ray diffraction technology. Using the enantiomers as monomers, a couple of chiral porous polyimides (R-FTPI and S-FTPI) are prepared by polycondensation reactions and display good heat stability, high BET surface area and good solubility in organic solvents. Moreover, both of R-FTPI and S-FTPI can be cast into robust, free-standing films suitable for enantioselective separation with symmetrical chiral selectivity.
