Frederic Bartlett's schema theory is still widely misunderstood as claiming that remembering is inevitably unreliable. However, according to the logic of his schema theory, remembering should, in relation to certain kinds of material, be relatively . In this study we examined whether a "well-worn" urban myth (the ) could be exempt from the fate of other material used in Bartlett's own research on serial reproduction. Supporting Bartlett's ideas, we found that recall of the story was better (if not perfect) over a series of five reproductions than recall of the classic . Recall was also better for a strict (as opposed to a lenient) audience, in line with another prediction from Bartlett's social theory of remembering. Notwithstanding this, we conclude with some critical remarks on the serial reproduction method as an approach to cultural memory.

As a fundamental taxonomic group within vertebrates, fish represent an invaluable resource for investigating the mechanisms underlying sex determination and differentiation owing to their extensive geographical distribution and rich biodiversity. Within this biological cohort, the processes of sex determination and differentiation are intricately governed by both genetic factors and the complex interplay of environmental cues. While variations in external environmental factors, particularly temperature, can exert a modulatory influence on sex differentiation in fish to a limited degree, genetic factors remain the primary determinants of sexual traits.

Although minimal increases in testicular temperature can compromise spermatogenesis and lead to fertility-related problems, the basic mechanism involved in germ cell destruction as a response to heat stress is still unclear. However, necroptosis is known to regulate a number of physiological and pathological events. This study investigated the role of RIPK1/RIPK3 and MLKL, the main regulators of necroptosis, against different heat stresses in testis tissue.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) causes significant economic losses in the swine industry. However, the molecular mechanisms behind the common and cell type-specific systemic responses during PRRS virus (PRRSV) infection are not well understood. In this study, we collected viremia data, antibody levels, and whole-blood RNA-seq data obtained from eight PRRSV-infected piglets.

Background And Purpose: In proton therapy, a relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of 1.1 is used to convert proton dose into an equivalent photon dose. However, RBE varies with tissue type, fraction dose, and beam quality parameters beyond dose such as linear energy transfer (LET) raising concerns about increased local effectiveness and potential toxicity.

Retinal diseases often lead to degeneration of specific retinal cell types with currently limited therapeutic options to replace the lost neurons. Previous studies have reported that overexpression of or combinations of proneural factors in Müller glia (MG) induce regeneration of functional neurons in the adult mouse retina. Recently, we applied the same strategy in dissociated cultures of fetal human MG and although we stimulated neurogenesis from MG, our effect in 2D cultures was modest and our analysis of newborn neurons was limited.
