Acute pancreatitis (AP) is followed by structural and functional changes in the intestine, resulting from microbiome dysbiosis. However, it remains unclear how gut microbiome changes within the initial 72h of onset. In this study, severe acute pancreatitis (SAP), mild acute pancreatitis (MAP), and sham operation (SO) were replicated in rat models. 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing was used to explore the gut bacteria community. The predicted Cluster of Orthologous Genes (COG) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) metabolic pathways were associated with the 16S rRNA profiles. Compared to the SO group, significant community succession was found during the initial 72h in AP group. At 72 h after AP induction, the (F/B) ratios were significantly different, with the highest ratio in SAP group and the lowest in MAP group. was the most abundant genus, but it nearly disappeared in SAP rats at 72 h. 1 and 1 were significantly enriched in AP group. S24-7 and were enriched in MAP group, while , , and were enriched in SAP group. was significantly correlated with nine COGs. Nine COGs showed significant differences between AP group and SO group. Moreover, four COGs showed significant differences between the MAP and SAP groups. KEGG Level_3 pathways propanoate metabolism (Ko00640) in AP group was significantly higher than that in SO group. The aspartate‒ammonia ligase and four KEGG orthology terms of the AP group were lower than that in the SO group, respectively. All these results suggest that the intestinal bacterial community structure and function was changed during the initial 72h in AP rats. The intestinal F/B ratio and the relative abundance of could be potential markers for early diagnosis of MAP and SAP. The genus was the most enriched genus in AP, and may be an important marker for AP.

This study sought to establish and validate an interpretable CT radiomics-based machine learning model capable of predicting post-acute pancreatitis diabetes mellitus (PPDM-A), providing clinicians with an effective predictive tool to aid patient management in a timely fashion. Clinical and imaging data from 271 patients who had undergone enhanced CT scans after first-episode acute pancreatitis from March 2017-June 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were classified into PPDM-A (n = 109) and non-PPDM-A groups (n = 162), and split into training (n = 189) and testing (n = 82) cohorts at a 7:3 ratio.

Purpose: To determine if endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) should be performed with surgery or as a different step, on acute cholecystitis, and which strategy has the least complications and morbimortality.
Methods: Various databases (PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, Science Direct, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, CINAHL, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature, clinical trials, Google Scholar) were searched for randomized trials comparing the different timings for ERCP and cholecystectomy. No language or time restrictions were applied.

Methods: A total of 113 patients with normal pancreatic enzyme levels diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 and 120 patients with both coronavirus disease 2019 diagnosis and high pancreatic enzyme levels were included in the study. The rs7041 genotyping of the 11th single nucleotide variation in the vitamin D-connector protein gene was determined by polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism methods.
