The novel piperidinium dicoumarol has been synthesized by the reaction of 3-formylchromone, 4-hydroxycoumarin, and piperidine under chitosan catalyzed solvent-free green conditions. FT-IR and NMR spectroscopy established the structure of dicoumarol, which was further confirmed by a single X-ray diffraction study. The single diffraction study has revealed the hydrogen bonding interactions, which were further validated by Hirshfeld surface analysis. Geometry optimizations of dicoumarol have been performed at the DFT level of theory by the B3LYP acting along with Gaussian 16, revision B.01 to calculate the geometric and electronic structure parameters.

Zearalenone (ZEN) is a harmful macrolide mycotoxin, posing a serious hazard to human health. In this study, a highly efficient ZEN-degrading bacterium Gordonia hydrophobica HAU421 was isolated from soil by using spiramycin (SPM)-containing selective medium. Mass spectrometry analysis revealed that strain HAU421 could transform ZEN into hydrolyzed zearalenone (HZEN), zearalenol (ZEL), and hydrolyzed zearalenol (HZEL).

Chitosan (CS) is a versatile polysaccharide with numerous inherent biological activity, while the lack of amphiphilicity limits its application in emulsion-based systems. In this study, erythorbyl myristate (EM) with interfacial activity was chemically modified to 5-O-succinyl EM (EMS) and grafted onto CS to improve the emulsifying properties. The grafting reaction was conducted by the catalysis of protease, with the progress of the reaction monitored by HPLC analysis and UV absorbance measurement.

In this paper, a pH-sensitive chitosan-grafted phenylboronic acid (CS-BA)/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel was constructed based on dynamic borate bonding for loading chemotherapeutic drug cisplatin (CDDP) and divalent Cu (CS-BA/PVA-Cu-CDDP). The hydrogel can respond and degrade specifically in the simulative acidic tumor microenvironment (TME), and the released Cu can deplete glutathione (GSH) in tumor cells and generate Cu. It is worth noting that, Cu can further catalyze the Fenton-like reaction to generate cancer cell-toxic hydroxyl radicals (OH•).

As a green method, enzyme crosslinking can catalyze chitosan (CS) to improve further the structural, interfacial, and functional properties of Inca peanut albumin (IPA)-polyphenols. However, the structural impact of laccase-catalyzed CS on different IPA-polyphenol conjugates has not been reported. Results revealed that enzymatic cross-linking of IPA-gallic acid (GA) and IPA- (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) with CS resulted in a decrease in α-helices, an increase in β-helices, and a more ordered structure.

This study investigated the ability of Phyllanthus emblica encapsulated within chitosan-coated casein (CS-casein-Amla) nanoparticles to inhibit the growth of multi-drug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) bacteria and prevent the formation of biofilms. The MDR strains underwent screening, and the morphological characteristics of the resulting nanoparticles were assessed using SEM, DLS, and FTIR.
