Herein, we report the synthesis of sulfur-substituted boron(III) subphthalocyanines (SubPcs) with cationic axial ligands. Subphthalocyanines were synthesized by a condensation reaction using the corresponding phthalonitriles and boron trichloride as a template. An aminoalkyl group was introduced on the central boron atom; this process was followed by -methylation to introduce a cationic axial ligand. The peripheral sulfur groups shifted the Q band of SubPcs to a longer wavelength. The cationic axial ligands increased the polarity and enhanced the hydrophilicity of SubPcs. The effect of axial ligands on absorption and fluorescence properties is generally small. However, a further red shift was observed by introducing cationic axial ligands into the sulfur-substituted SubPcs. This change is similar to that in sulfur-substituted silicon(IV) phthalocyanines. The unique effect of the cationic axial ligand was extensively investigated by theoretical calculations and electrochemistry. In particular, the precise oxidation potential was determined using ionization potential measurements. Thus, the results of the present study provide a novel strategy for developing functional dyes and pigments based on SubPcs.

The tightly-regulated spatial and temporal distribution of zinc ion concentrations within cellular compartments is controlled by two groups of Zn transporters: the 14-member ZIP/SLC39 family, facilitating Zn influx into the cytoplasm from the extracellular space or intracellular organelles; and the 10-member ZnT/SLC30 family, mobilizing Zn in the opposite direction. Genetic aberrations in most zinc transporters cause human syndromes. Notably, previous studies demonstrated osteopenia and male-specific cardiac death in mice lacking the ZnT5/ zinc transporter, and suggested association of two homozygous frameshift variants with perinatal mortality in humans, due to hydrops fetalis and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

The title compound, {(CHNO)[SnBr]} , is a layered hybrid perovskite crystallizing in the monoclinic space group 2/. The asymmetric unit consists of one HC-O-NH -CH cation (MeHA), one Sn atom located on a twofold rotation axis, and two Br atoms. The Sn atom has a distorted octa-hedral coordination environment formed by the bromido ligands.

The crystal structure of the title compound, hexa-aqua-nickel(II) dichloride-1,4,7,10,13,16-hexa-oxa-cyclo-octa-deca-ne-water (1/2/2), [Ni(HO)]Cl·2CHO·2HO, is reported. The asymmetric unit contains half of the Ni(OH) moiety with a formula of CHClNiO at 105 K and triclinic (1) symmetry. The [Ni(OH)] cation has close to ideal octa-hedral geometry with O-Ni-O bond angles that are within 3° of idealized values.

Ferrocenyl amines as directing groups for C-H activation have limitations as they are prone to undergo oxidation, allylic deamination, and β-hydride elimination. The fundamental challenge observed here is the competition between the desired C-H activation the vulnerable β-C-H bond activation of amines and fine-tuning of a suitable oxidant which avoids the oxidation of the β-C-H bond and ferrocene. Herein, the potential of an axially chiral NOBINAc ligand is revealed to implement the enantioselective Pd-catalyzed C-H activation process of ferrocenyl amines.

Porphyrinoids in the 20π-electron state have been extensively studied from the fundamental viewpoint of investigating their structure-antiaromaticity relationships. However, most of the 20π porphyrinoids are highly distorted and unstable in air, which hinder the comprehensive analysis of paratropic ring-current effects derived from planar π-electron systems. Herein, we present the first examples of antiaromatic Sn(IV) complexes of 5,10,15,20-tetraaryl-5,15-diazaporphyrinoids (SnXTADAPs), prepared by the complexation of the corresponding freebases with Sn(II) chloride under aerobic conditions and subsequent metathesis of the axial ligands, that show paratropic ring-current effects.
