Energy efficiency and energy intensity are gradually gaining attention, and it is now an important proposition to reconcile financial marketization, fiscal decentralization, and regional energy intensity. Using Chinese mainland provincial panel data (except Tibet) from 2007 to 2019, this study applied the dynamic panel system generalized method of moments model, the spatial Durbin model, and the panel threshold model to investigate the mechanisms of financial marketization and fiscal decentralization on regional energy intensity. The study found that financial marketization can play a significant role in suppressing regional energy intensity, while fiscal decentralization promotes energy intensity. Meanwhile, financial marketization in one province can have a negative spatial transmission effect on energy intensity in other provinces, while fiscal decentralization in one province has a negative spatial spillover effect on energy intensity in other provinces. Based on the analysis of the moderating and threshold effects, financial marketization not only moderates the negative externality of fiscal decentralization, making it inhibit energy intensity in the opposite direction, but also gradually increases the moderating effect on fiscal decentralization as the degree of financial marketization increases, showing a nonlinear inhibiting effect on regional energy intensity.

Integrating climate and physical constraints into assessments of net capture from direct air capture facilities.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Carleton University, Ottawa, ON K1S 5B6, Canada.

Limiting climate change to targets enshrined in the Paris Agreement will require both deep decarbonization of the energy system and the deployment of carbon dioxide removal at potentially large scale (gigatons of annual removal). Nations are pursuing direct air capture to compensate for inertia in the expansion of low-carbon energy systems, decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors, and address legacy emissions. Global assessments of this technology have failed to integrate factors that affect net capture and removal cost, including ambient conditions like temperature and humidity, as well as emission factors of electricity and natural gas systems.

Composite coatings reinforced with varying mass fractions of SiC particles were successfully fabricated on 316 stainless steel substrates via laser cladding. The phase compositions, elemental distribution, microstructural characteristics, hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance of the composite coatings were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), Vickers hardness testing, friction-wear testing and electrochemical methods. The coatings have no obvious pores, cracks or other defects.

The etch-engineering is a feasible avenue to tailor the layer number and morphology of 2D layered materials during the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) growth. However, less reports strengthen the etch-engineering used in the fabrication of high-quality transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) materials with tunable layers and desirable morphologies to improve their prominent performance in electronic and optoelectronic devices. Here, an etching-and-growth coexistence method is reported to directly synthesize high-quality, high-symmetric MoS bilayers with versatile morphologies via CVD.

The Ralstonia solanacearum Species Complex (RSSC) is the most significant plant pathogen group with a wide host range. It is genetically related but displays distinct biological features, such as restrictive geography occurrence. The RSSC comprises three species: Ralstonia pseudosolanacearum (phylotype I and III), Ralstonia solanacearum (phylotype IIA and IIB), and Ralstonia syzygii (phylotype IV) (Fegan and Prior 2005).

Ultraviolet (UV) irradiation is dangerous and can cause serious skin diseases if skin is excessively exposed to it. Thus, it is highly desirable for human health to monitor the UV radiation intensity. In this report, a flexible and stretchable dual-response UV radiation detector is reported by integrating UV-responsive color-switchable WO quantum dots (QDs) with an electrical hydrogel.
