Carbamates, typically used for the protection of amines, including Cbz, Alloc, and methyl carbamate, can be readily deprotected by treatment with 2-mercaptoethanol in the presence of potassium phosphate tribasic in ,-dimethylacetamide at 75 °C. This nucleophilic deprotection protocol is superior to the standard hydrogenolysis or Lewis acid-mediated deprotection conditions for substrates bearing a functionality sensitive to these more traditional methods.

Uniform sugar-functionalized polyesters combine the benefits of sugar's structural diversity, biocompatibility, and biodegradability with precise postfunctionalization capabilities, making them a highly valuable class of materials with extensive application potential. However, the irregular placement of hydroxyl groups has limited the synthesis of these polyesters. Here, we present the first platform for uniform sugar-functionalized polyesters via regioselective ring-opening copolymerizations (ROCOPs) of allopyranoside anhydrosugar epoxide (, derived from d-glucose) with cyclic anhydrides, followed by complete selective deprotection.

Nucleophilic aromatic substitutions (SAr) of alkoxides on pentafluoroaryl ethers are explored as a first step in a synthesis sequence to generate all- 2,3,5,6-tetrafluorocyclohexyl-1,4-dialkyl ethers . The SAr reaction was explored both experimentally and theoretically to rationalize // selectivities. -Butyl deprotection of products followed by phenol alkylations introduces versatility to the synthesis.
