This paper describes the preparation and characterization of soy protein isolate (SPI)-collagen self-assembled nanomicelles. Novel SPI-collagen self-assembled nanomicelles hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions were developed. SPI-collagen soluble complexes were formed at pH 6.4, which was lower than the isoelectric point of collagen (pI = 7.8) and higher than that of SPI (pI = 4.5). This research mainly focuses on the intermolecular force between the SPI and collagen. The diameter distribution, critical association concentration, and stability of the SPI-collagen self-assembled nanomicelles were investigated in this research. It was found that the SPI and collagen had hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions, and then formed natural complex nanomicelles in a weakly acidic environment. The preparation of SPI-collagen self-assembled nanomicelles was performed in an aqueous environment without surfactants or toxic agents. As a fixing agent, transglutaminase (TGase) promoted the intra- and intermolecular cross-linking of the nanomicelles, which improved the stability of the self-assembled nanomicelles. The SPI-collagen nanomicelles had a good stability. This research may provide a reference for the utilization of SPI-collagen self-assembled nanomicelles.

The two obstacles for treating glioma are the skull and the blood brain-barrier (BBB), the first of which forms a physical shield that increases the difficulties of traditional surgery or radiotherapy, while the latter prevents antitumor drugs reaching tumor sites. To conquer these issues, we take advantage of the high penetrating ability of sonodynamic therapy (SDT), combined with a novel nanocomplex that can easily pass the BBB. Through ultrasonic polymerization, the amphiphilic peptides (CGRRGDS) were self-assembled as a spherical shell encapsulating a sonosensitizer Rose Bengal (RB) and a plant-derived compound, sulforaphane (SFN), to form the nanocomplex SFN@RB@SPM.

Sigal peptides have garnered remarkable efficacy in rejuvenating photoaged skin and delaying senescence. Nevertheless, their low solubility and poor permeability bring about a formidable challenge in their transdermal delivery. To address this challenge, bioactive ionic liquids (ILs) synthesized from natural glycyrrhizic acid (GA) and oxymatrine (OMT) with eminent biocompatibility is first prepared.

Poor tumor penetration is the major predicament of nanomedicines that limits their anticancer efficacy. The dense extracellular matrix (ECM) in the tumor is one of the major barriers against the deep penetration of nanomedicines. In this work, a slimming/excavating strategy is proposed for enhanced intratumoral penetration based on an acid-disassemblable nanomicelles-assembled nanomedicine and the NO-mediated degradation of ECM.

Oleanolic acid (OA) is a food-derived bioactive component with antidiabetic activity, but its water solubility and oral bioavailability are notably restricted. In this study, to overcome these limitations, ursodeoxycholic acid-modified chitosan oligosaccharide (UCOS) was synthesized to encapsulate OA in self-assembled nanomicelles (UCOS-OA). The encapsulation efficiency and drug loading of UCOS-OA were 86 % and 11 %, respectively.

Self-assembly is a powerful strategy for building nanosystems for biomedical applications. We have recently developed small amphiphilic dendrimers capable of self-assembling into nanomicelles for tumor imaging. In this context, we studied the impact of increased hydrophobicity of the amphiphilic dendrimer on hydrophilic/hydrophobic balance and consequently on the self-assembly and subsequent biodistribution.
