Phthalates are one of the most commonly used endocrine disruptors and have been considered a risk factor for respiratory disease including asthma. However, it is not yet known how they are related to urticaria. We investigated the association between phthalate exposure and urticaria in 10 healthy controls and 20 adult patients with active urticaria. The urinary levels of mono--butyl phthalate (MnBP), mono-2-ethyl-5-carboxypentyl phthalate (MECPP), mono-(2-ethyl-5-oxohexyl) phthalate, and mono-(2-ethyl-5-hydroxyhexyl) phthalate (MEHHP) were measured by using high performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry, and mast cell releasability was determined after phthalate treatment. The levels of phthalate metabolites, especially di-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP), are significantly increased in the urine of patients with urticaria compared to the healthy controls. The release of β-hexosaminidase in human mast cells is more significantly increased by MnBP, mono-benzyl phthalate, MEHHP, and MECPP compared to the negative controls; interestingly, the highest secretion of β-hexosaminidase is observed after the lowest stimulation of MECPP. Phthalates, including DEHP, may act as aggravating factors for chronic spontaneous urticaria and can be used as potential therapeutic targets in future studies.

Berk Alleviated Atherosclerosis Symptoms via Nuclear Factor-Kappa B-Mediated Inflammatory Response in ApoE Mice.

Nutrients

December 2024

Engineering Research Center of Chinese Ministry of Education for Edible and Medicinal Fungi, Jilin Agricultural University, Changchun 130118, China.

Background: Atherosclerosis, a persistent inflammatory disease marked by the presence of atherosclerotic plaques or fibrous plaques, is a significant contributor to the onset of the development of cardiovascular disease. Berk contains various active ingredients that have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and hypolipidemic properties. Nevertheless, the potential effects of on atherosclerosis have not been systematically reported.

Raisins are an important source of polyphenolic compounds in plant foods, and polyphenols are associated with antioxidant and anti-aging activity. In this work, 628 polyphenols in raisin extracts were characterized using UPLC-MS/MS, mainly including tricetin 3'-glucuronide, diisobutyl phthalate, butyl isobutyl phthalate, isoquercitrin and 6-hydroxykaempferol-7-O-glucoside. The oxidative stress in HO-induced HepG2 cells and D-gal-induced aging mice was alleviated by raisin polyphenols (RPs) via increases in the cellular levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione (GSH), along with decreases in malonaldehyde (MDA), reactive oxygen species (ROS) and advanced glycosylation end-products (AGEs) levels.

Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) and Cadmium (Cd) affect female reproduction. To date, toxicological research has focused on the effects of individual contaminants, whereas living beings are exposed to mixtures. This study analyzed the effects of a DEHP/Cd mixture on nuclear and cytoplasmic maturation of sheep cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs) compared with single compounds.

Brochantite was precipitated using stoichiometric amounts of CuSO and NaOH and characterized by scanning electron microscopy, specific surface area, thermogravimetric analysis, and zeta potential. Brochantite can be converted into paratacamite, basic copper bromide, and copper phthalate by shaking the powder with solutions containing excess corresponding anions. By contrast, attempts to convert brochantite into basic iodide, acetate, nitrate, or rhodanide in a similar way failed, that is, the powder after shaking with solutions containing excess corresponding anions still showed the powder X-ray diffraction pattern of brochantite.

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, The Fourth Hospital of Hebei Medical University, No.12, Health Road, Shijiazhuang City, 050011, Hebei Province, China.

This article focusing on examining the function and further, molecular function of SHP2 in ovarian cancer (OC). For the molecular mechanism, bioinformatics was applied to study the specifically expressed genes in ovarian cancer ; the western blotting was applied to identify the EGF, p-SHP2, ZEB1, and E-Cadherin expressions in ovarian cancer tissue and pair adjacent tissue; then SKOV3 cells were treated with EGF and infected with E-Cadherin overexpression lentivirus, and then cells were treated with benzyl butyl phthalate and IRS-1 respectively. Detection of expression of p-SHP2, ZEB1, E-Cadherin, α3-integrin, p-Src, p-SMAD2, Snail, Slug and SKOV3 cells of migration and invasion abilities were detected using Western blot method and cell scratch assay and Transwell assay; Progression of ovarian cancer was detected using subcutaneous tumor transplantation assay in nude mice and HE staining method and immunocyto.
