The persistent emergence of COVID-19 variants and recurrent waves of infection worldwide underscores the urgent need for vaccines that effectively reduce viral transmission and prevent infections. Current intramuscular (IM) COVID-19 vaccines inadequately protect the upper respiratory mucosa. In response, we have developed a nonadjuvanted, interferon-armed SARS-CoV-2 fusion protein vaccine with IM priming and intranasal (IN) boost sequential immunization.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess how different routes of vaccine administration and the use of injectable trace minerals (ITM) affect immune responses in dairy calves infected with BVDV2 and BHV1.
  • A total of 60 calves were vaccinated and monitored for immune cell counts, revealing that unvaccinated calves showed significantly lower leukocyte levels compared to vaccinated ones.
  • Results indicated that calves receiving subcutaneous vaccinations had better immune response, particularly in CD4 T cells, and those in the ITM-IN group had the highest CD8 T cell counts, highlighting the importance of both the vaccination method and ITM usage in immune system effectiveness.

Background: Gut microbiome on predicting clinical responses to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has been discussed in detail for decades, while microecological features of the lower respiratory tract within advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are still relatively vague.

Methods: During this study, 26 bronchoalveolar lavage fluids (BALF) from advanced NSCLC participants who received immune checkpoint inhibitor monotherapy were performed 16S rRNA sequencing and untargeted metabolome sequencing to identify differentially abundant microbes and metabolic characteristics. Additionally, inflammatory cytokines and chemokines were also launched in paired BALF and serum samples by immunoassays to uncover their underlying correlations.

This study highlights how the intersection of multiple factors shapes the experiences of Scotland's Black, African, and Caribbean communities in their access and uptake of COVID-19 vaccines in the vaccination programme's first, second, and booster stages. There was particular interest in understanding the vaccination journey, from scheduling an appointment to attending the appointment. Data in this study was collected between the 1 and 30 April 2022 using a triangulated approach, including a survey (with 408 responses), interviews (26), and focus group discussions (5 groups involving 30 participants).

This study aimed to identify the associations between socioeconomic factors, the social environment, and human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine coverage among adolescents in the state of Minas Gerais (MG), Brazil. This ecological study utilized secondary data from 853 municipalities in MG, covering female adolescents from 2014 to 2022 and male adolescents from 2017 to 2022, as provided by the information system of the National Immunization Program. Spatial statistical analysis was conducted to assess spatial dependence and identify spatial clusters of municipalities with high and low HPV vaccine coverage.
