This study describes a regioselective ,'-diborylation of aromatic triazenes catalyzed by [Ir(OMe)(cod)] in near-quantitative yields without an additional ligand. Aromatic triazenes act as both substrates and ligands. The X-ray structures of and indicate that the monoborylation products could promote the occurrence of diborylation. The synthesized triazene-substituted diboronate esters could undergo a variety of transformations including directing group removal. One-pot sequential modification provides a short entry to densely functionalized arenes.

Background: Several studies identified affect-regulatory qualities of deceptive placebos within negative and positive affect. However, which specific characteristics of an affect-regulatory framing impacts the placebo effect has not yet been subject to empirical investigations. In particular, it is unclear whether placebo- induced expectations of direct emotion inhibition or emotion regulation after emotion induction elicit stronger effects in affect regulation.

Modular assembly of amines and diborons with photocatalysis enabled halogen atom transfer of organohalides for C(sp)-C(sp) bond formation.

In the past few years, the direct activation of organohalides by ligated boryl radicals has emerged as a potential synthetic tool for cross-coupling reactions. In most existing methods, ligated boryl radicals are accessed from NHC-boranes or amine-boranes. In this work, we report a new photocatalytic platform by modular assembly of readily available amines and diboron esters to access a library of ligated boryl radicals for reaction screening, thus enabling the cross-coupling of organohalides and alkenes including both activated and unactivated ones for C(sp)-C(sp) bond formation by using the assembly of DABCO A1 and BNepB1.

The strong correlation between reproductive life cycle type and chromosome numbers in green plants has been a long-standing mystery in evolutionary biology. Within green plants, the derived condition of heterosporous reproduction has emerged from the ancestral condition of homospory in disparate locations on the phylogenetic tree at least 11 times, of which three lineages are extant. In all green plant lineages where heterospory has emerged, there has been a significant downsizing in chromosome numbers.

The Strength of a Story: Partnering With a Community Organization to Destigmatize Substance Use Disorder.

MedEdPORTAL

January 2025

Associate Professor, Division of Palliative Medicine, Department of Family Medicine, Robert Larner, M.D., College of Medicine at the University of Vermont.

Introduction: Stigmatizing attitudes held by health care professionals against individuals with substance use disorder (SUD) result in worse clinical outcomes. Story-listening has been shown to help mitigate bias for medical trainees. We created a narrative-based small-group facilitated discussion between medical students and an individual in recovery from SUD through a direct partnership with a community peer-recovery organization.
