A series of four bolaamphiphiles with different hydrophilic units has been synthesised. All the amphiphiles were well characterised from their physiochemical data. The aggregation tendency of newly synthesised amphiphiles was studied using fluorescence spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS), and cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-TEM). Furthermore, their application as nanocarriers for hydrophobic guests was demonstrated by using two established standards, the dye Nile red and the drug nimodipine. A cytotoxicity and cellular uptake study has been carried out using A549 cells. Due to the presence of an ester linkage in PEG based bolaamphiphiles, a drug release study was performed in the presence of an immobilized enzyme Novozym-435 (a lipase).

Terpene-based amphiphilic copolymers have been designed as biobased stabilizers for waterborne latex synthesized by miniemulsion or emulsion polymerization of 1,3-diene terpene monomers. The pH-responsive P(AA--My) amphiphilic copolymers were synthesized by nitroxide-mediated radical copolymerization of β-myrcene (My) and acrylic acid (AA) with reactivity ratios of = 0.24 ± 0.

A series of aggregation-induced emission luminogens (AIEgens) with donor-π-acceptor (D-π-A) architecture were rationally designed and synthesized through π-bridge engineering for dual-modal photodynamic and photothermal therapy. The AIEgens (TPT, TFT, and TTT) were constructed using methoxy-substituted tetraphenylene as the electron donor and tricyanofuran as the electron acceptor, connected via different π-bridges (phenyl, furan, or thiophene). These compounds exhibited red-shifted absorption (460-545 nm) and emission (712-720 nm) with remarkable aggregation-induced emission characteristics.

As one of the key diagnostic methods for detecting biomarkers and antigen-antibody interactions, the luminescent oxygen channel immunoassay (LOCI) has been widely applied in bioanalysis and other fields. In the context of LOCI, the performance of the prepared donor polystyrene (PS) microspheres significantly impacts the detection signal values. In this study, an attempt was made to synthesize PS microspheres via one-step polymerization of styrene with an amphiphilic monomer (PEOOH), followed by swelling the silicon phthalocyanine photosensitizer into the PS microspheres, resulting in the functionalization of the PS microspheres with polyethylene glycol segments.

Due to the straightforward single-step synthesis, amphiphilic gradient copoly(2-oxazoline)s are becoming more popular alternative to their block analogue for the development of next-generation drug delivery systems. Here, we investigated the influence of polymer architecture on the physiochemical and biological assessment of nanoformulations formed by the self-assembly of gradient copoly(2-oxazoline)s. Two different architectures were synthesized: hydrophilic-grad-hydrophobic (mono-gradient) and hydrophobic-grad-hydrophilic-grad-hydrophobic (di-gradient) which contained a hydrophilic monomer, 2-ethyl-2-oxazoline (EtOx) and a hydrophobic monomer, 2-phenyl-2-oxazoline (PhOx).

Background/objectives: Peptide amphiphile micelles (PAMs) are an exciting nanotechnology currently being studied for a variety of biomedical applications, especially for drug delivery. Specifically, PAMs can enhance in vivo trafficking, cell-targeting, and cell interactions/internalization. However, modifying peptides, as is commonly performed to induce micellization, can influence their bioactivity.
