Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) is a promising conducting polymer in terms of its applicability to transparent and flexible electronic devices. Generally, a negatively charged PSS chain can interact with alkali metal cations like sodium and potassium. During polymerization, these ions, especially sodium ions, remain in an aqueous state and affect particle formation. This paper describes the effect of residual sodium ions on the synthesis of PEDOT:PSS and its electrical and optical properties. Removing the sodium ions weakens the coulombic interaction between the PEDOT and PSS chains, which leads to a linear conformation. This conformational change enhances the electrical conductivity and work function. Furthermore, transmittance in the visible region increased remarkably because the intrinsic electrical properties of the PEDOT:PSS particles were improved. Moreover, the colloidal stability was enhanced because the particle coagulation caused by residual sodium ions was reduced. In summary, we determined that sodium ions in PEDOT:PSS have a considerable influence on its electrical and optical properties and colloidal stability for practical applications.

Improving the adsorption capacity of materials for pollutants by means of modification is an important direction in the research of water treatment technology. To improve the applicability of sodium alginate composites in the field of adsorption, magnetic sodium alginate-based hydrogel microsphere adsorbent material FeO@SA/PEI-Fe (FSPF) was synthesized in a single step by using polyethyleneimine grafting modification of sodium alginate by sol-gel method. The material was used for the removal of direct blue GL (DB 200) and direct date red B (DR 13) from simulated wastewater, as well as Cu(II) and Pb(II) from simulated wastewater with heavy metal ions.

Background: Mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mROS), such as superoxide and hydrogen peroxide (HO), are implicated in aging-associated neurological disorders, including Alzheimer's Disease and frontotemporal dementia. Mitochondrial complex III of the respiratory chain has the highest capacity for mROS production and generates mROS toward the cytosol, poising it to regulate intracellular signaling and disease mechanisms. However, the exact triggers of complex III-derived ROS (CIII-ROS), its downstream molecular targets, and its functional roles in dementia-related pathogenesis remain unclear.

Intrinsic low conductivity, poor structural stability, and narrow interlayer spacing limit the development of MnO in sodium-ion (Na) supercapacitors. This work constructs the hollow cubic Mn-PBA precursor through an ion-exchange process to in situ obtain a hollow cubic H-Ni-MnO composite with Ni doping and oxygen vacancies (O) via a self-oxidation strategy. Experiments and theoretical calculations show that the hollow nanostructure and the expanding interlayer spacing induced by Ni doping are beneficial for exposing more reactive sites, synergistically manipulating the Na transport pathways.

Triggering the anionic redox reaction is an effective approach to boost the capacity of layered transition metal (TM) oxides. However, the irreversible oxygen release and structural deterioration at high voltage remain conundrums. Herein, a strategy for Mg ion and vacancy dual doping with partial TM ions pinned in the Na layers is developed to improve both the reversibility of anionic redox reaction and structural stability of layered oxides.
