The high worldwide demand for amorphous precipitated silica (APS) materials, millions of tons worth billions of dollars, makes it worthwhile to further expand the techniques for synthesizing new, cheap, and environmentally friendly resources. In this research, amorphous precipitated silica was synthesized from alkaline dissolution of olivine using a mixture of NaOH and KOH and characterized; this combination resulted in better kinetics than those of the separate components. Experimental parameters (concentration of alkali, liquid/solid ratio, reaction time, and temperature) were optimized to provide maximum recovery of APS from olivine dissolution, which was then characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) N adsorption-desorption measurements, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The APS possessed suitable morphology for use as an additive in polymers and in catalysis: a particle size below 10 nm, pore width of 5.59 nm, BJH adsorption cumulative pore volume of 0.96 cm g, BET surface area of 670.8 m g, and Langmuir surface area of 859.3 m g. The apparent activation energy of olivine dissolution with a mixture of NaOH/KOH was 43.6 kJ mol. The steps involved in creation of APS from olivine resulted in opportunities for carbon dioxide absorption, which could contribute to the production of valuable materials through decarbonation of exhaust gases.

: This study aims to broaden the knowledge on co-amorphous phospholipid systems (CAPSs) by exploring the formation of CAPSs with a broader range of poorly water-soluble drugs, celecoxib (CCX), furosemide (FUR), nilotinib (NIL), and ritonavir (RIT), combined with amphiphilic phospholipids (PLs), including soybean phosphatidylcholine (SPC), hydrogenated phosphatidylcholine (HPC), and mono-acyl phosphatidylcholine (MAPC). : The CAPSs were initially prepared at equimolar drug-to-phospholipid (PL) ratios by mechano-chemical activation-based, melt-based, and solvent-based preparation methods, i.e.

Food freshness monitoring and volatile amine detection are key to food safety. In this study, we demonstrated the applicability of mixed-valence rhenium oxide quantum dots (MV-ReOQDs), synthesized via the hydrothermal reaction of α-cyclodextrin and rhenium ion precursors, in triethylamine (TEA) sensing. Spectroscopic correlation techniques showed that the developed MV-ReOQDs possessed mixed-valent rhenium, α-cyclodextrin as capped ligand, partially carbonized surface, and amorphous phase structure.

Electronic address:

Improving the catalytic efficiency and recyclability of immobilized enzyme remained a serious challenge in industrial applications. Enzyme immobilization in the amorphous zeolite imidazolate framework (aZIF) preserved high enzyme activity, but still faced separation difficulties and a low catalytic efficiency in practice. In this study, a one-pot co-precipitation method was used to form the enzyme-aZIF/magnetic nanoparticle (MNP) biocomposite by rapidly precipitating snailase (Sna) and β-glucosidase (β-G) with metal/ligand on MNP and modifying with L-aspartic acid (Asp).

In this study, we have investigated the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra of myoglobin on silver substrates with different morphology. The aim was to determine the optimal parameters of analyte and substrate preparation for obtaining of high-amplitude SERS spectra of proteins. It is shown that not only the morphology of the silver film, but also the method of analyte molecules deposition on the SERS substrate plays an important role.

Nanodots of Transition Metal Sulfides, Carbonates, and Oxides Obtained Through Spontaneous Co-Precipitation with Silica.

The controlled formation and stabilization of nanoparticles is of fundamental relevance for materials science and key to many modern technologies. Common synthetic strategies to arrest growth at small sizes and prevent undesired particle agglomeration often rely on the use of organic additives and require non-aqueous media and/or high temperatures, all of which appear critical with respect to production costs, safety, and sustainability. In the present work, we demonstrate a simple one-pot process in water under ambient conditions that can produce particles of various transition metal carbonates and sulfides with sizes of only a few nanometers embedded in a silica shell, similar to particles derived from more elaborate synthesis routes, like the sol-gel process.
