In this study, poly(vinylidene fluoride--hexafluropropylene) (PVDF-HFP)/polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) blend membranes for water-in-oil emulsion separation were prepared a thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) method using dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and dioctyl phthalate (DOP) as a mixed diluent. The effects of PTFE content on the obtained membranes' structure and properties were studied. The results showed that the surface structure of the obtained membranes without addition of PTFE particles was denser and the surface pores got smaller. The porosity, pore size and hydrophobicity obviously increased with the increase in PTFE content. However, the breaking elongation and breaking strength decreased with the increase of PTFE content. When the PTFE content was 10 wt%, the obtained membrane showed the highest separation efficiency for different kinds of water-in-oil emulsions. In addition, the antifouling performance of the obtained membranes was also studied for many times of reuse. This paper introduces an effective and facile method to prepare hydrophobic-oleophilic membranes for water-in-oil emulsion separation.

Currently, few studies have been conducted on the use of fluorocarbon resin (FEVE) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) as adhesive substrates and lubricating and anti-corrosion fillers, respectively, for the fabrication of PTFE-reinforced fluorocarbon composite coatings. In this paper, the tribological properties of polytetrafluoroethylene-reinforced fluorocarbon composite coatings were investigated through orthogonal tests under various operating conditions. The optimal configuration for coating preparation under dry friction and aqueous lubrication was thus obtained: the optimal filler particle size, mass ratio of FEVE to PTFE, spraying pressure, and curing agent content were 50 μm, 3:4.

The optical and dielectric properties of opals with different water contents were investigated using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. The refractive indices and absorption coefficients showed different trends due to the different water contents. The effective medium theory was used to extract the intrinsic dielectric permittivity of opal from opal-polytetrafluoroethylene mixtures.

During Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV) operation, the liquid water in gas diffusion media (GDM) prevents the reaction gas from reaching the reaction zone and lead to output power fluctuation and reduce the lifespan of FCV. In the present research, hydrophobicity gradient settings of micro-porous layer (MPL) and gas diffusion layer (GDL) are optimized to improve the water removal ability of GDM. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model is constructed for numerical simulations to analyze the fuel cell power output and the water content in the GDM with different hydrophobicity gradients.

In this study using a discordant, xenogeneic, transplant model we demonstrate the functionality and safety of the first stent-based bioartificial pancreas (BAP) device implanted endovascularly into an artery, harnessing the high oxygen content in blood to support islet viability. The device is a self-expanding nitinol stent that is coated with a bilayer of polytetrafluoroethylene that forms channels to hold islets embedded in a hydrogel. We completed a 1-month study in the nondiabetic swine model (N = 3) to test the safety of the device and to assess islet functionality after device recovery.

PTDF is prepared by a convenient ionic reaction of phytic acid, terephthalic dihydrazide and iron salts in water. It is a new type of high efficiency flame retardant. PTDF has high phosphorus and nitrogen content and good thermal stability, which can effectively improve the flame retardancy of PLA.
