Self-Etching Pd-Pb Nanoparticles with Controllable Tensile Strain for C Alcohol Oxidation.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

Institute of Materials for Energy and Environment, College of Materials Science and Engineering, Qingdao University, Qingdao 266071, PR China.

Pd-based nanocatalysts hold significant promise for application in alkaline direct ethanol fuel cells (DEFCs). To address the challenges of low Pd atom utilization and poor reaction kinetics in conventional Pd-based catalysts, a self-etching strategy has been developed to synthesize PdPb nanoparticles (NPs) with tunable size and abundant tensile strain. The nanoparticles demonstrated a markedly enhanced electrocatalytic performance.

As the demand for sustainable energy sources intensifies, biodiesel emerges as a compelling renewable alternative to petroleum-based fuels. Leveraging waste cooking oil (WCO) as a feedstock not only offers an environmentally friendly fuel source but also addresses waste disposal issues. However, biodiesel production from WCO faces challenges, particularly due to its high free fatty acid (FFA) content, which can hinder efficient conversion and lead to soap formation in traditional alkaline-catalysed processes.

Outstanding enrichment of ladderane lipids in anammox bacteria: Overlooked effect of pH.

Ladderane lipids synthesised by anammox bacteria hold significant potential for applications in jet fuel, drug delivery, and optoelectronics. Despite the widespread use of anammox bacteria in nitrogen removal from wastewater, the optimal conditions for maximising ladderane production remain unclear, limiting their broader application. To address this, we operated a fed-batch bioreactor with anammox bacteria, gradually adjusting the pH from 6.

Tetraarylphosphonium Cations with Excellent Alkaline-Resistant Performance for Anion-Exchange Membranes.

To realize the robust anion exchange membrane (AEM)-based water splitting modules and fuel cells, the design and synthesis of tetraarylphosphonium (TAP) cations are described as a new class of cationic building blocks that exhibit remarkable alkaline stability under harsh conditions. TAP cations with highly sterically demanding aromatic substituents were efficiently synthesized from triarylphosphine derivatives and highly reactive arynes, whose alkaline degradation proved to be suppressed dramatically by the sterically demanding substituents. In the case of bis(2,5-dimethylphenyl)bis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)phosphonium, for example, approximately 60% of the cation survived for 27 d under the forced conditions (i.

Anion Exchange Membranes (AEMs) are promising materials for electrochemical devices, such as fuel cells and electrolyzers. However, the main drawback of AEMs is their low durability in alkaline operating conditions. A possible solution is the use of composite ionomers containing inorganic fillers stable in a basic environment.
