To prepare a new kind of electromagnetic wave absorber, and improve the processing technology and accessional value of natural microcrystalline graphite minerals (NMGMs), reduced microcrystalline graphene oxide (rGO-M), a novel absorber with high absorption, low reflection and a wide absorption band, was prepared from NMGMs using a solvent-assisted thermal reduction method. Moreover, the as-produced rGO-M with adjustable electrical resistivity can be easily transferred into well distributed bulk materials by freeze-drying technology. These unique structures and compositions make a great contribution to the impedance match, and cause strong conductive loss and various dipole polarization effects which greatly enhance the absorption. Meanwhile, the effective bandwidths below -5 dB and -10 dB are 11.7 GHz and 3.32 GHz respectively, and the reflection loss can reach -42.68 dB. The study will be beneficial to the development of carbon resources and carbon materials research. Besides, it can provide a scientific basis for the further improvement of the comprehensive utilization and the level of deep processing technology of NMGM resources.

Azo-compounds molecules and phase change materials offer potential applications for sustainable energy systems through the storage and controllable release photochemical and phase change energy. Developing novel and highly efficient Azo-based solar thermal fuels (STFs) for photothermal energy storage and synergistic cooperation with organic phase change materials present significant challenges. Herein, three types of (ortho-, meta-, and para-) azopyridine polymers hinged with flexible alkyl chain are synthesized, in which meta-azopyridine polymer exhibits striking photothermal storage capacity of 430 J/g, providing a feasibility solution for developing high energy density Azo-based STFs.

Materials and Packaging Research & Services (MPPR&S), Institute for Materials Research (Imo-Imomec), Hasselt University, Martelarenlaan 42, B-3500 Hasselt, Belgium.

The escalating environmental concerns associated with conventional plastic packaging have accelerated the development of sustainable alternatives, making food packaging a focus area for innovation. Bioplastics, particularly polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs), have emerged as potential candidates due to their biobased origin, biodegradability, and biocompatibility. PHAs stand out for their good mechanical and medium gas permeability properties, making them promising materials for food packaging applications.

Pathway-directed recyclable chirality inversion of coordinated supramolecular polymers.

School of Chemical Science and Engineering, Advanced Research Institute, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Chemical Assessment and Sustainability, Tongji University, Shanghai, 200092, P. R. China.

It remains challenging to elucidate the fundamental mechanisms behind the dynamic chirality inversion of supramolecular assemblies with pathway complexity. Herein, metal coordination driven assembly systems based on pyridyl-conjugated cholesterol (PVPCC) and metal ions (Ag or Al) are established to demonstrate pathway-directed, recyclable chirality inversion and assembly polymorphism. In the Ag(I)/PVPCC system, a competitive pathway leads Ag-Complex to form either kinetically controlled supramolecular polymer (Ag-SP I) or thermodynamically favored Ag-SP II, accompanied by reversible chiroptical inversion.

We report a series of -functionalized phenylbenzoxazoles that offer remarkable energy storage, exceeding 300 J g, for the first time among intermolecular cycloaddition-based molecular solar thermal energy storage systems. The [2 + 2] photocycloaddition of phenylbenzoxazoles generates diazetidine cycloadducts that store energy for up to 23 years in the solid state and release energy upon triggered cycloreversion. The solid-state phase transition contributes to increasing overall energy storage densities, and the dearomative cycloaddition process is revealed to be critical for maximizing the intrinsic energy storage capacities.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study evaluated the co-formability and stability of these systems through various analytical techniques, such as thermal analysis and crystallography.
  • * Results showed that while CAMS with more hydrophobic amino acids had better supersaturation and stability in dissolution tests, the hydrophilic LYSinhibited dissolution performance, which improved with the use of a wetting agent.
