Transition-metal borides (TMBs) containing B -fragment (n>3) have recently gained interest for their ability to enable exciting magnetic materials. Herein, we show that the B -containing TiFe Os B is a new ferromagnetic TMB with a Curie temperature of 523(2) K and a Weiss constant of 554(3) K, originating from the chain of M -triangles (M=64 %Fe+36 %Os). The new phase was synthesized from the elements by arc-melting, and its structure was elucidated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. It belongs to the Ti Os RuB -type structure (space group P 2 m, no. 189) and contains trigonal-planar B boron fragments [B-B distance of 1.87(4) Å] interacting with M -triangles [M-M distances of 2.637(8) Å and 3.0199(2) Å]. The experimental results were supported by computational calculations based on the ideal TiFeOs B composition, which revealed strong ferromagnetic interactions within and between the Fe -triangles. This discovery represents the first magnetically ordered Os-rich TMB, thus it will help expand our knowledge of the role of Os in low-dimensional magnetism of intermetallics and enable the design of such materials in the future.

Among contributors to diffusible signaling are portal systems which join two capillary beds through connecting veins. Portal systems allow diffusible signals to be transported in high concentrations directly from one capillary bed to the other without dilution in the systemic circulation. Two portal systems have been identified in the brain.

The embellishing of the macrocycle core with sulfur substituents of varied sterical requirements changes the structural dynamics of chiral, triangular polyimines. Despite their formal high symmetry, these compounds adopt diverse conformations, in which the macrocycle core represents a non-changeable unit. DFT calculations reveal that the mutual arrangement of sulfur-containing substituents is controlled mainly by sterical interactions.

The reaction between molybdenum(ii) acetate and 5-aminoisophthalic acid (HIso-NH) afforded [MoO(μ-O)(Iso-NH)], a novel molybdenum(v) metal-organic polyhedron (MOP) with a triangular antiprismatic shape stabilized by intramolecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The synthesis conditions, particularly the choice of solvent and reaction time, led to the precipitation of the Mo(v)-MOP in five distinct crystalline forms. These forms vary in their packing arrangements, co-crystallized solvent molecules, and counter-cations, with three phases containing dimethylammonium (dma) and the other two containing diethylammonium (dea).

Studying the self-assembly of chiral molecules in two dimensions offers insights into the fundamentals of crystallization. Using scanning tunneling microscopy, we examine an uncommon aggregation of polyaromatic chiral molecules on a silver surface. Dense packing is achieved through a chiral triangular tiling of triads, with N and N ± 1 molecules at the edges.

Triangular Au and tetrahedral Au are key structural units in the face-centered cubic gold core of thiolate-protected gold nanoclusters. Understanding their stacking arrangements is essential for elucidating the growth mechanisms of these gold cores. In this study, we design two new isomers of Au(SR) nanoclusters via deliberately adjusting the stacking pattern of Au and Au based on the grand unified model and ring model to show preferable packing arrangements.
