Background And Introduction: Botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT) is a potent biological toxin extracted from Clostridium Botulinum bacteria. BoNT injection is mainly used for medical purposes; it is frequently used for cosmetic purposes as well. The hypothesis that frequent application of this treatment modality may also affect the central nervous system constitutes the subject of our study.

Objective: We aimed to demonstrate the possible central effects of BoNT in hemifacial spasm patients.

Methods And Materials: Diffusion tensor imaging was used for this study. Patients were divided into two groups, and the measured values for each determined bilateral neuroanatomic region were compared within the relevant group.

Results: Fractional anisotropy (FA) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values were found to be closer to the pathological values in the right motor cortex and in the left internal capsule areas of the patients who were injected with BoNT into the left side, in the left motor cortex area of the patients who were injected with BoNT into the right side. No significant changes were detected in other regions.

Conclusion: Botulinum neurotoxin administration in patients with hemifacial spasms may cause some changes in the central nervous system as well as peripheral effects. In the case of similar studies supporting pathological changes, BoNT treatment modalities or appropriate indications may be reviewed, and regulation on excessive cosmetic use may be in question.

Rationale: Gastric antral vascular ectasia (GAVE) is a rare acquired lesion characterized by vascular dilation in the gastric antrum, frequently results in occult or overt gastrointestinal bleeding. Endoscopic intervention remains the cornerstone of therapy. Argon plasma coagulation was previously considered a first treatment option.

Rationale: Bilateral gluteus medius contractures in adults are rare in clinical practice, with only a few cases reported. These contractures may result from repeated intramuscular injections during childhood. Understanding the clinical manifestations, diagnostic process, treatment, and outcomes can provide insights into effective management strategies.

Background: This study evaluates the efficacy of a novel bismuth subgallate-borneol compound ointment as an adjuvant therapy in promoting postoperative healing of infectious incisions after anorectal surgery.

Methods: From June 2023 to October 2023, 46 patients with perianal abscess and anal fistula treated at our institution's Anorectal Surgery Department were enrolled in this prospective randomized controlled study. Patients were randomly allocated into 2 groups: the experimental group (n = 23) received conventional wound care plus a proprietary ointment containing 4.

Background: Cervical cancer screening program in Uganda is opportunistic and focuses mainly on women aged 25-49 years. Female sex workers (FSWs) are at increased risk of developing invasive cervical cancer. There is limited data regarding the uptake and acceptability of cervical cancer screening among FSWs in Uganda.

There is different administration routes of triamcinolone acetonide (TA) administration for macular edema, but the efficacy ranking remains unclear. The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy of different administration routes of TA employed in macular edema. PubMed, Medline, Embase, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were systematically searched for published articles comparing macular edema in patients with triamcinolone acetonide in different administration.
