Photoionisation of ethanol clusters has been investigated at different laser wavelengths over the intensity range of ∼10-10 W cm. Under 266 nm ionisation, singly charged fragments and protonated cluster ions (up to (CHOH)H) were observed in the mass spectrum. Moreover, small ion signals corresponding to doubly charged carbon ions (C) were also observed. At longer laser wavelengths ( 355, 532 and 1064 nm), the charge states of multiply charged ions of C and O were found to increase systematically and the maximum observed charge states were C and O at 1064 nm. Generation of C ions (IE: 392 eV) is noteworthy as it requires removal of a core shell electron from a carbon atom. A comprehensive study has been carried out to appreciate the ionisation mechanism of such higher charge state formation in an ethanol cluster at terawatt laser intensity. A laser power dependency study suggests the role of multiphoton ionsation in creating initial charge centres within the cluster. Subsequently the ionised electrons produced upon multiphoton ionisation gain energy from the laser field and cause further ionisation electron impact ionisation. Energisation of electrons and generation of multiply charged atomic ions were found to depend on the stability of clusters in the laser field which in turn is related to intermolecular interactions of ethanol clusters. Moreover, anionic fragment ions were observed in the ionisation of ethanol clusters at ∼10 W cm which also influences the ionisation dynamics of the cluster.

Molecular dynamics simulations of the structure and dynamics in mixtures of ionic liquids and alcohols.

Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Nano and Bio Science and Technology, Persian Gulf University, Bushehr 75168, Iran.

Molecular dynamics simulations were conducted on mixtures of ionic liquids (ILs) and alcohols, specifically methanol, ethanol, and 1-propanol. Two different ILs, [Mmim][MeSO] and [Bmim][MeSO], were used with varying alcohol mole fractions to investigate the impact of alkyl chain length of cations, alcohol types, and alcohol concentrations on different structural and dynamic properties. Unique characteristics of the ILs were observed due to the varying polarity of solvents and the creation of diverse local environments surrounding the ILs.

Mycofactocin is a redox cofactor essential for the alcohol metabolism of mycobacteria. While the biosynthesis of mycofactocin is well established, the gene , which encodes an oxidoreductase of the glucose-methanol-choline superfamily, remained functionally uncharacterized. Here, we show that MftG enzymes are almost exclusively found in genomes containing mycofactocin biosynthetic genes and are present in 75% of organisms harboring these genes.

One of the methods for obtaining zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) is electrochemical synthesis. In this study, the anodic dissolution process of metallic zinc in alcohol solutions of LiCl was used to synthesize ZnO NPs. The products were obtained as colloidal suspensions in an electrolyte solution.
