We have designed four dyes based on D-A'-π-A/D-π-A'-π-A triphenylamine and quinoline derivatives for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) and studied their optoelectronic properties as well as the effects of the introduction of alkoxy groups and thiophene group on these properties. The geometries, single point energy, charge population, electrostatic potential (ESP) distribution, dipole moments, frontier molecular orbitals (FMOs) and HOMO-LUMO energy gaps of the dyes were discussed to study the electronic properties of dyes based on density functional theory (DFT). And the absorption spectra, light harvesting efficiency (LHE), hole-electron distribution, charge transfer amount from HOMO to LUMO ( ), index, index, index and exciton binding energy ( ) were discussed to investigate the optical and charge-transfer properties of dyes by time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT). The calculated results show that all the dyes follow the energy level matching principle and have broadened absorption bands at visible region. Besides, the introduction of alkoxy groups into triarylamine donors and thiophene groups into conjugated bridges can obviously improve the stability and optoelectronic properties of dyes. It is shown that the dye D4, which has had alkoxy groups as well as thiophene groups introduced and possesses a D-π-A'-π-A configuration, has the optimal optoelectronic properties and can be used as an ideal dye sensitizer.

Ferroelectric semiconductors have the advantages of switchable polarization ferroelectric field regulation and semiconductor transport characteristics, which are highly promising in ferroelectric transistors and nonvolatile memory. However, it is difficult to prepare a Sn-based perovskite film with both robust ferroelectric and semiconductor properties. Here, by doping with 2-methylbenzimidazole, Sn-based perovskite [93.

Solvation layer effects on lithium migration in localized High-Concentration Electrolytes: Analyzing the diverse antisolvent Contributions.

J Colloid Interface Sci

Localized high-concentration electrolytes (LHCEs) offer a new methodology to improve the functionality of conventional electrolytes. Understanding the impact of antisolvents on bulk electrolytes is critical to the construction of sophisticated LHCEs. However, the mechanism of how antisolvent modulates the electrochemical reactivity of the solvation structure in LHCEs remains unclear.

Recent advances in the development of enantiopure BODIPYs and some related enantiomeric compounds.

Chem Commun (Camb)

Department of Chemistry, Khalifa University, SAN Campus, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

During the process of developing smart chiroptical luminophores, small chiral organic dyes have emerged as candidates of utmost importance. In this regard, the chiral variants of boron dipyrromethene (BODIPY) serve as suitable molecules owing to their excellent photophysical properties such as high fluorescence quantum yields, narrow emission bandwidths with high peak intensities, high photo and chemical stability, and higher molar extinction coefficients. Thus, the last decade observed an influx of research from various research groups for the induction of chirality in originally achiral BODIPY.

Vinylene-linked Covalent Organic Frameworks (V-2D-COFs) are a class of promising porous organic materials that feature fully π-conjugated structures, high crystallinity, ultrahigh chemical stability, and extraordinary optoelectronic properties. However, the types of reactions and the availability of monomers for synthesizing linked COFs are considerably limited by the irreversibility of the C═C bond, and the complete π-conjugated structure restricts their in-depth research in hydrophilicity, membrane materials, and proton conductivity. Postsynthetic modification (PSM), which can avoid these problems by incorporating functional moieties into the predetermined framework, provides an alternative way to construct diverse V-2D-COFs.

The design and synthesis of nonlinear optical (NLO) materials are rapidly growing fields in optoelectronics. Considering the high demand for newly designed materials with superior optoelectronic characteristics, we investigated the doping process of Group-IIIA elements (namely, B, Al and Ga) onto alkali metal (AM = Li, Na and K)-supported COLi (AM@COLi) complexes to enhance their NLO response. The AM-COLi complexes retained their structural features following interaction with the Group-IIIA elements.
