The electronic structures of two-dimensional (2D) indium (In) and bismuth (Bi) metal on BN nanosheets are systematically studied using hybrid density functional theory (DFT). We found that 2D In and Bi metal effectively modulate the band gap of a BN nanosheet. We also found that the indirect band gap of the 2D In and Bi metal electronic structures are 0.70 and 0.09 eV, respectively. This modulation originates from the charge transfer between the 2D metal and BN nanosheet interfaces, as well as from the electron redistribution of the In/BN and Bi/BN heterojunctions of the s and p orbitals. Our results provide an insight into 2D In/BN and Bi/BN heterojunctions, which should be useful in the design of 2D In and Bi metal-semiconductor-based devices.

Using metal oxides to disperse iridium (Ir) in the anode layer proves effective for lowering Ir loading in proton exchange membrane water electrolyzers (PEMWE). However, the reported low-Ir-based catalysts still suffer from unsatisfying electrolytic efficiency and durability under practical industrial working conditions, mainly due to insufficient catalytic activity and mass transport in the catalyst layer. Herein we report a class of porous heterogeneous nanosheet catalyst with abundant Ir-O-Mn bonds, achieving a notable mass activity of 4 A mg for oxygen evolution reaction at an overpotential of 300 mV, which is 150.

Flexible two-dimensional nickel-cobalt metal-organic frameworks/graphene oxide/carbon nanotubes (2D NiCo-MOF/GO/CNTs) hybrid films have been designed and prepared as high-performance supercapacitor electrode materials vacuum filtration. The 2D NiCo-MOF nanosheets serve as the main source of capacitance for the hybrid films, while CNTs function as both the conductive network, enhancing the electrical conductivity of the MOFs, and the binder, linking the 2D NiCo-MOF nanosheets and GO. When the mass ratio of 2D NiCo-MOF, GO, and CNTs is 2 : 1 : 0.

Substitution metal doping strategies are crucial for developing catalysts capable of activating O, but the leaching of metal dopants has greatly hindered their potential for extensive oxidation reactions under mild conditions. Here, the study develops an entropy-increase strategy to synthesize high-entropy metal (Mg, Ca, Mn, Fe, and Co) interstitial functionalized anatase TiO (HE-TiO) nanosheets, demonstrating remarkable degradation efficiency across a wide pH range and exceptional stability in a flow-by electro-catalytic reactor. Relative to that of pristine TiO, the intense lattice distortion on the (001) plane, an average lattice expansion of 2% on the (100) plane, and decrease of second shell peak of X-ray absorption spectra serve as compelling evidence for the formation of metal interstitials in HE-TiO.

Water-assisted electrocatalytic oxidation of alcohols into valuable chemicals is a promising strategy to circumvent the sluggish kinetics of water oxidation, while also reducing cell voltage and improving energy efficiency. Recently, transition metal (TM)-based catalysts have been investigated for anodic alcohol oxidation, but success has been limited due to competition from the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) within the working regime. In this study, NiCo-based Prussian blue analog (PBA) was electrochemically activated at the anodic potential to produce a Co-Ni(O)OH active catalyst with a nanosheet-like architecture.

The utilization of cobalt-based sulfides is constrained by their inherently low conductivity and slow sodium ion diffusion kinetics. Modifying the electronic configuration and constructing heterostructures are promising strategies to enhance intrinsic conductivity and expedite the sodium ion diffusion process. In this study, heterogeneous nanoparticles of Se-substituted CoS2/CoSe2, embedded within heteroatom-modified carbon nanosheet, were synthesized using metal molten salt-assisted dimensionality reduction alongside concurrent sulfurization and selenization techniques.
