Elevating the long-wavelength activation of photocatalysts represents a formidable approach to optimizing sunlight utilization. Polythiophene (PTh), although renowned for its robust light absorption and excellent conductivity, is largely overlooked for its potential as a photocatalyst due to the swift recombination of photogenerated charge carriers. Herein, we unveil that the strategic introduction of an aromatic ring containing varying nitrogen content into PTh instigates polarized charge distribution and facilitates the narrowing of the band gap, thereby achieving efficient photocatalytic activities for both hydrogen and hydrogen peroxide generation.

Photocatalytic conversion has emerged as a promising strategy for harnessing renewable solar energy in the valorization of plastic waste. However, research on the photocatalytic transformation of plastics into valuable nitrogen-containing chemicals remains limited. In this study, we present a visible-light-driven pathway for the conversion of polylactic acid (PLA) into alanine under mild conditions.

The concurrent evolution of value-added benzimidazole compounds and hydrogen within the domain of chemical synthesis is of paramount importance. The utilization of photocatalysis enhances both the efficiency and environmental benignity of the synthetic process. However, it is profoundly challenging within a photocatalytic system to simultaneously augment the number of active sites and the internal transport rate of photogenerated charge carriers.

The development of efficient photocatalysts inspired by natural photosynthesis has drawn considerable interest for sustainable hydrogen (H) production. Among the various strategies for enhancing H evolution, constructing step-scheme (S-scheme) heterojunctions has attracted extensive interest, thanks to their limited charge recombination and enhanced charge transport in comparison to the traditional photocatalytic systems. Herein, we report the engineering of a novel S-scheme heterojunction by integrating ultrathin ZnInS (ZIS) nanosheets with MOF-derived N-doped NiO porous microrods (ZIS/N-NiO) toward superior photocatalytic behaviors.

NO is a significant primary atmospheric pollutant that plays a key role in atmospheric chemistry. It serves as a crucial precursor to photochemical smog, acid rain, and secondary particulate matter and is instrumental in determining the atmospheric oxidation capacity. In this review, we focus on the heterogeneous chemistry of NO, which has been demonstrated to significantly influence the sources and sinks of various nitrogen-containing species through field measurements and model simulations.
