The magnetic nano-adsorbent FeO@Mg/Al-CO-LDH (Mg/Al-type layered double hydroxide) with a CO interlayer anion has been synthesized successfully on FeO nanoparticles a urea hydrothermal method. It is confirmed that the nano-adsorbent can adsorb PO rapidly and efficiently in multi-ion solutions; meanwhile, it did not adsorb any F and Cl, even with a high amount of the nano-adsorbent or a longer adsorption time. This behaviour is beneficial for applications to remove PO in phosphorus-rich solutions, and especially can be utilized to determine trace F and Cl anions in phosphorus-rich solutions by physical and chemical analysis methods including ion chromatography without serious interference from PO for trace determinations. Herein, the hydrothermally synthesized FeO@Mg/Al-CO-LDH was characterized SEM, TEM, SAED, XRD, FTIR, magnetic hysteresis loop analysis and adsorption-desorption isotherm analysis. The structure and stability, adsorption mechanism, magnetic saturation value, specific surface area, total pore volume, phosphate adsorption capacity and recyclability are discussed. Using the optimized pretreatment conditions, FeO@Mg/Al-CO-LDH was utilized successfully to adsorb PO in real samples and determine trace F and Cl accurately by ion chromatography; this would be very beneficial for continuous analysis and on-line tests by physical and chemical analysis methods without interference from PO in phosphorus-rich samples, leaving F and Cl even if in a trace content.

Phosphorus is an essential macronutrient for crop production. Struvite precipitation and reuse from phosphorus-rich sewage sludge are cost-effective measures to improve phosphorus utilization efficiency and decrease its negative environmental impact. In this study, the objectives were to optimize the phosphorus extraction (using sulfuric acid) and recovery (as struvite) processes and determine the most appropriate process conditions using RSM.

We describe the synthesis, solid state and electronic structures of a series of tunable five-membered cationic and charge-neutral inorganic heterocycles featuring a PCN core. 1-Aza-2,3,4-triphospholenium cations [(PR)N(H)CR'], [1] (R' = Me, Ph, 4-MeOCH, 4-CFCH) were formed as triflate salts by the formal [3 + 2]-cyclisation reactions of strained cyclic triphosphanes (PR) (R = Bu, 2,4,6-MeCH (Mes), 2,6- PrCH (Dipp), 2,4,6- PrCH (Tipp)) with nitriles R'CN in the presence of triflic acid. The corresponding neutral free bases (PR)NCR' (2) were readily obtained by subsequent deprotonation with NEt.

Three different technological solutions, namely acidogenic fermentation and chemical extraction (alkaline or acidic), followed by precipitation with 1% Ca(OH), were investigated in the view of integrating phosphorus recovery into existing wastewater treatment plants. Experiments were conducted at the lab-scale using (i) sludge taken from biologically and chemically promoted phosphorus removal activated sludge processes and (ii) ashes obtained from sludge muffle incineration. Results highlighted the benefits of enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) systems rather than chemically promoted phosphorus removal in not only phosphorus extraction (up to 40% with EBPR) and recovery directly from secondary sludge (P precipitation between 66 and 92%), but after sludge incineration as well (P extraction up to 96% and precipitation above 96%).

Organic polymers have attracted considerable interest in designing a multifunctional electrocatalyst. However, the inferior electro-conductivity of such metal-free polymers is often regarded as a shortcoming. Herein, a nitrogen- and phosphorus-rich polymer with phosphamide functionality (PAP) in the repeating unit has been synthesized from diaminopyridine (DAP) and phenylphosphonic dichloride (PPDC) precursors.

Iron phosphide (FeP) nanoparticles have excellent properties such as fast charge transfer kinetics, high electrical conductivity, and high stability, making them a promising catalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). A challenge to the wide use of iron phosphide nanomaterials for this application is the available synthesis protocols that limit control over the resulting crystalline phase of the product. In this study, we report a method for synthesizing FeP through a solution-based process.
