Article Abstract

It is well-known that Ag-Au bimetallic nanoplates have attracted significant research interest due to their unique plasmonic properties and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). In recent years, there have been many studies on the fabrication of bimetallic nanostructures. However, controlling the shape, size, and structure of bimetallic nanostructures still has many challenges. In this work, we present the results of the synthesis of silver nanoplates (Ag NPls), and Ag-Au bimetallic core/shell and alloy nanostructures, using seed-mediated growth under green LED excitation and a gold salt (HAuCl) as a precursor of gold. The results show that the optical properties and crystal structure strongly depend on the amount of added gold salt. Interestingly, when the amount of gold() in the sample was less than 0.6 μmol ( < 0.6 μmol), the structural nature of Ag-Au was core/shell, in contrast > 0.6 μmol gave the alloy structure. The morphology of the obtained nanostructures was investigated using the field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) technique. The UV-Vis extinction spectra of Ag-Au nanostructures showed localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) bands in the spectral range of 402-627 nm which changed from two peaks to one peak as the amount of gold increased. Ag-Au core/shell and alloy nanostructures were utilized as surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrates to detect methylene blue (MB) (10 M concentration). Our experimental observations indicated that the highest enhancement factor (EF) of about 1.2 × 10 was obtained with Ag-Au alloy. Our detailed investigations revealed that the Ag-Au alloy exhibited significant EF compared to pure metal Ag and Ag-Au core/shell nanostructures. Moreover, the analysis of the data revealed a linear dependence between the logarithm of concentration (log ) and the logarithm of SERS signal intensity (log ) in the range of 10-10 M with a correlation coefficient ( ) of 0.994. This research helps us understand better the SERS mechanism and the application of Raman spectroscopy on a bimetallic surface.

Chiral plasmonic nanomaterials have attracted significant awareness due to their applications in chiral catalysis, biosensing, photonics, and separation. Constructing plasmonic core-shell nanomaterials with geometric chirality and desirable optical chirality is a crucial yet challenging task for extending the range of chiral plasmonic nanomaterials. Here, a two-step method is reported for the synthesis of Gold (Au) branches wrapped silver (Ag) nanocubes (L/DBAg@Au) with strong and tunable circular dichroism (CD) signals under the regulation of L/D-cysteine (L/D-Cys).

Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a crucial cytokine involved in inflammation and immune regulation. However, the detection of IL-6 with ultrasensitivity and high specificity remains a significant challenge due to the inherent complexity of biofluids. Herein, we present a digital surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) immunoassay using core-shell Au@Ag-Au nanotags for IL-6 detection with ultrasensitivity and high reliability.

The fine control of the nanogap and morphology of metal nanoparticles (NPs) has always been an obstacle, hindering the development and application of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) quantitative detection. Here, Au/4-mercaptobenzoic acid@Ag@Au-Ag bimetal core-shell nanocubes (NCs) with a "crescent arc" facet (C-Au/4MBA@Ag NCs) as a highly reliable and sensitive surface-enhanced Raman scattering SERS substrate is proposed for the first time. The bifunctional internal standard (IS) molecules (4MBA) govern the morphology of metal shells to maintain cubic configuration and provide calibration for SERS signals' flotation.

The in situ growth dynamics of colloidal silver-gold core-shell (Ag@Au CS) nanoparticles (NPs) are studied using time-dependent second harmonic generation (SHG) and extinction spectroscopy. Four sequential additions of chloroauric acid, sodium citrate, and hydroquinone are added to a silver nanoparticle solution to form a gold shell around a 45 nm silver core under different reaction conditions, resulting in final sizes ranging from 80 to 125 nm in diameter. In the first addition, a bumpy, urchin-like surface morphology is produced, while the second, third, and fourth additions provide additional nanoparticle growth with the surface morphology becoming more smooth and uniform, as shown using transmission electron microscopy measurements.
