Geometric Tuning of Stress in Predisplaced Silicon Nitride Resonators.

Published: May 2022

We introduce a novel method to geometrically tune the tension in prestrained resonators by making SiN strings with a designed predisplacement. This enables us, for example, to study their dissipation mechanisms, which are strongly dependent on the stress. After release of the resonators from the substrate, their static displacement is extracted using scanning electron microscopy. The results match finite-element simulations, which allows a quantitative determination of the resulting stress. The in- and out-of-plane eigenmodes are sensed using on-chip Mach-Zehnder interferometers, and the resonance frequencies and quality factors are extracted. The geometrically controlled stress enables tuning not only of the frequencies but also of the damping rate. We develop a model that quantitatively captures the stress dependence of the dissipation in the same SiN film. We show that the predisplacement shape provides additional flexibility, including control over the frequency ratio and the quality factor for a targeted frequency.

Crohn's disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and chronic fatigue: the importance of communication and symptom management-a case report.

J Med Case Rep

January 2025

Center for Complementary Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine II, Faculty of Medicine, Medical Center - University of Freiburg, University of Freiburg, 79106, Freiburg, Germany.

Background: Crohn's disease and irritable bowel syndrome may both cause abdominal pain and diarrhea. Irritable bowel syndrome not only is an important differential diagnosis for Crohn's disease but also occurs in one out of three patients with Crohn's disease in remission in parallel. If not adequately diagnosed and treated, additional functional symptoms such as fatigue and/or muscle pain may develop, indicating a more severe course.

Psychosocial risks and mental health of preschool care providers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: a cross-sectional study.

Health Department of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, Health office of Lembah Pantai District, Ministry of Health, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Background: Child maltreatment in daycare is a public health issue. As childcare is stressful, high care provider negativity independently predicts more internalizing behaviour problems, affecting children's psycho-neurological development. This study aimed to determine psychosocial factors associated with the mental health of preschool care providers in Kuala Lumpur.

Background: The increasing awareness of the emotional consequences of emergency cesarean deliveries (C-sections) highlights their substantial role in fostering postpartum post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to evaluate the prevalence and determinants of PTSD following emergency C-sections, as well as the implications of these events on maternal mental health and welfare.

Methods: Undertaking extensive searches of Scopus, PubMed, PsycINFO, and Google Scholar, we have incorporated studies published from 2013 onwards that examined the occurrence of PTSD following emergency C-sections.

Transcriptional regulation of miR528-PPO module by miR156 targeted SPLs orchestrates chilling response in banana.

Banana is sensitive to cold stress and often suffers from chilling injury with browning peel and failure to normal ripening. We have previously reported that banana chilling injury is accompanied by a reduction of miR528 accumulation, alleviating the degradation of its target gene MaPPO and raising ROS levels that cause peel browning. Here, we further revealed that the miR528-MaPPO cold-responsive module was regulated by miR156-targeted SPL transcription factors, and the miR156c-MaSPL4 module was also responsive to cold stress in banana.

Background: Gallstone disease (GSD) is a prevalent gastrointestinal disorder, few studies have examined the combined effects of dietary and lifestyle factors on GSD. This study aims to investigate the relationship between oxidative balance score (OBS) and GSD, and explores the potential mediating role of oxidative stress.

Methods: Cross-sectional data from 6,196 participants in the NHANES 2017-2020 were analyzed.
