Active anodes which are operating in highly stable protic media such as 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropanol are rare. Nickel forms, within this unique solvent, a non-sacrificial active anode at constant current conditions, which is superior to the reported powerful molybdenum system. The reactivity for dehydrogenative coupling reactions of this novel active anode increases when the electrolyte is not stirred during electrolysis. Besides the aryl-aryl coupling, a dehydrogenative arylation reaction of benzylic nitriles was found while stirring the mixture providing quick access to synthetically useful building blocks.

Non-haem iron (Fe) and 2-oxoglutarate(2OG)-dependent dioxygenases catalyse various biological reactions. These enzymes couple the oxidative decarboxylation of 2OG to the hydroxylation of the substrates. While some of these enzymes are reported to have multiple substrates, the substrate remains unknown for many of the enzymes.

Glufosinate (GLUF) and glyphosate (GLY) are nonselective phosphorus-containing amino acid herbicides that are widely used in agricultural gardens and noncultivated areas. These herbicides give rise to a number of key metabolites, with 3-methyl phosphinicopropionic acid (MPPA), -acetyl glufosinate (-acetyl GLUF), aminomethyl phosphonic acid (AMPA), -acetyl aminomethyl phosphonic acid (-acetyl AMPA), -acetyl glyphosate (-acetyl GLY), -methyl glyphosate (-methyl GLY) as the major metabolites obtained from GLUF and GLY. Extensive use of these herbicides may lead to their increased presence in the environment, especially aquatic ecosystems.

Conversion of solar energy into value-added chemicals through photoelectrochemistry (PEC) holds great potential for advancing sustainable development but limits by high onset potential which affects energy conversion efficiencies. Herein, we utilized a CuPd cocatalyst-modified Sb2(S,Se)3 photocathode (CuPd/TSSS) to achieve an ultra-low onset potential of 0.83 VRHE for photoelectrochemical ammonia synthesis.

Aerobic Copper-Catalyzed Hydroxysulfonylation of Vinylarenes with Sodium Sulfinates.

A novel and efficient method for the intermolecular hydroxysulfonylation of vinylarenes using sodium sulfinates has been achieved through aerobic copper catalysis. This transformation proceeded smoothly with green air as the terminal oxidant in the presence of Cu (I)/1,10-phenanthroline as an efficient catalytic system, leading to an array of β-hydroxysulfones in moderate to high yields. The significant advantages of this protocol are the mild reaction conditions, readily available starting materials, good functional-group compatibility, synthetic convenience, and practicability.
