Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were synthesized from litchi peel, exhibiting a peroxidase-like activity and enabling the oxidation of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) in association with HO to generate blue oxidized TMB (ox-TMB) with a strong absorption peak at 652 nm. Interestingly, the ox-TMB could be further reduced by ascorbic acid (AA) leading to fading of the blue color and an absorbance decrease. Thus, a convenient and sensitive colorimetric method for detection of AA using CQDs as peroxidase mimics was established. Several factors, such as acidity, temperature, incubating time, and TMB concentration, which might influence the response of the analysis signal, were optimized. The results showed that the decrease of absorbance (Δ) was in good linear agreement with AA concentration in the range of 1.0-105 μM, with a low detection limit of 0.14 μM. The feasibility of this method was also investigated in commercial beverages with the 94.3-110.0% recovery.

The mungbean yellow mosaic India virus (MYMIV, Begomovirus vignaradiataindiaense) causes Yellow Mosaic Disease (YMD) in mungbean (Vigna radiata L.). The biochemical assays including total phenol content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), ascorbic acid (AA), DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl), and FRAP (Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power) were used to study the mungbean plants defense response to MYMIV infection.

Ascorbic acid (AA) was used as a reducing agent to improve the Fe(III)-activated peracetic acid (PAA) system for the removal of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) in this work. The efficiency, influencing factors and mechanism of SMX elimination in the AA/Fe(III)/PAA process were studied. The results exhibited that AA facilitated the reduction of Fe(III) to Fe(II) and subsequently improved the activation of PAA and HO.

The increasing prevalence of dental pathogens and oral cancer calls for new therapeutic agents. Nanoparticle (NPs) based tumor therapy enables precise targeting and controlled drug release, improving anti-cancer treatment efficacy while reducing systemic toxicity. Zinc oxide NPs (ZnO NPs) are notable in nanomedicine for their exceptional physicochemical and biological properties.
