High-fat diets have been associated with lower gut and fecal abundances of genus . Here, we investigated whether commonly consumed dietary free fatty acids have any detrimental effect on the growth of , , and . We found that the presence of free fatty acids in the medium inhibits the growth of species to a varying degree, with capric (C10:0), oleic (C18:1), and linoleic (C18:2) acids displaying the largest effect. In comparison, free fatty acids did not affect the growth of . When fats were added as a mixture of mono- and diacylglycerols, the inhibitory effect on growth was abolished.

Spent coffee grounds, the main by-product of the coffee-brewing process, were valorized as a renewable source of lipids for the synthesis of novel wax esters and as an alternative and sustainable oil-structuring agent for the production of oleogels. The lipase-catalyzed reactions were implemented using fatty alcohols both under solvent-free conditions and with limonene as an environmentally friendly solvent. Wax esters were evaluated for their ability to formulate olive oil oleogels through the determination of the physical properties of oleogels.

Acute leukemia, a highly perilous cancer, is diagnosed using invasive procedures like bone marrow aspirate and biopsy (BMA/BMB). This study investigated the use of artificial intelligence (AI)-enhanced Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy as a non-invasive, reagent-free diagnostic alternative with high sensitivity and specificity. The spectral peak patterns of peripheral blood smears (PBS) from clinically healthy individuals ( = 50) BMA/BMB-confirmed acute leukemia patients ( = 50) were examined in the 1800-850 cm range.

Objective: Bone marrow adipose tissue (BMAT) is emerging as an important regulator of bone formation and energy metabolism. Lipolysis of BMAT releases glycerol and fatty acid substrates that are catabolized by osteoblasts. Here, we investigated whether BMAT lipolysis is involved in subchondral bone formation in hand osteoarthritis (OA).

Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is the most common cause of chronic liver diseases with its pathophysiological mechanism poorly understood. In this work, serological, histological, molecular biological, biochemical, and immunological methods were applied to explore the pathological significance and action of zinc finger protein 281 (ZFP281 in mouse, ZNF281 in human) and targeted strategies. We reported that ZFP281/ZNF281 abundance in hepatocytes was positively correlated with the progression of NASH.

An applicable and highly efficient methodology for the preparation of medium- and long-chain triglycerides (MLCTs) via the enzymatic transesterification of coconut oil with long-chain fatty acid triglycerides, named camellia oil, olive oil, linseed oil, algal oil, and rapeseed oil, respectively, has been proposed. The novel system achieved equilibrium in 5 min, and the MLCT yield ranged from 78.7 to 83.
