Air pollution is a leading cause of global premature mortality and is especially prevalent in many low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). In sub-Saharan Africa, preliminary monitoring networks, satellite retrievals of air-quality-relevant species, and air quality models show ambient fine particulate matter (PM) concentrations that far exceed the World Health Organization guidelines, yet many areas remain largely unmonitored and understudied. Deploying a network of five low-cost PurpleAir PM monitors over 2 years (2019-2021), we present the first multiyear ambient air pollution monitoring data results from Lomé, Togo, a major West African coastal city with a population of about 1.4 million people. The full-study time period network-wide mean measured daily PM concentration is 23.5 μg m m. The strong regional influence of the dry and dusty Harmattan wind increases the local average PM concentration by up to 58% during December through February, but the diurnal and weekly trends in PM are largely controlled by local influences. At all sites, more than 87% of measured days exceeded the new WHO Daily PM guidelines; these first measurements highlight the need for air quality improvement in a rapidly growing urban metropolis.

The urgent etiological diagnosis represents the main management objective of cervical spondylodiscitis (CSD) to start as soon as possible antibiotic treatment to prevent neurological deterioration. The present study aimed to evaluate a multicenter experience implementing a minimally invasive surgical approach (MISA) to manage CSD such pathology vs the most complex and aggressive surgical strategies currently used. This retrospective multicenter study used a database of 70 patients from five European neurosurgical centers.

Objectives: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma from unknown primary (HNSCCUP) is a rare and challenging condition. This study aimed to investigate the diagnostic pathways of suspected HNSCCUP patients in the United Kingdom.
Methods: A retrospective observational cohort study was conducted, over 5 years from January 2015, in UK Head and Neck centres of consecutive adults undergoing 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose-PET-CT (PET-CT) within 3 months of diagnosis with metastatic cervical squamous cell carcinoma.

() is the primary agent of bovine tuberculosis (TB) in Mediterranean buffalo, which has a negative economic impact on buffalo herds. Improving TB diagnostic performance in this species represents a key step to eradicate efficiently this disease. We have recently shown the utility of the IFN-γ assay in the diagnosis of infection in Mediterranean buffaloes (), but other cytokines might be useful immunological biomarkers of this infection.

This study describes the congenital goiter in an alpaca (Vicugna pacos) fetus aborted in November 2021 with the clinical and pathological findings in the dam that was found dead on the farm three weeks after a miscarriage. The dam was a black coat alpaca bred in the Netherlands, imported in Italy in January 2021, and housed in a farm of central Italy for breeding purposes. Signalment and clinical data on dam and fetus were collected from the farmer and referring veterinarian.
