Eutrophication is a global problem for coastal ecosystems, one that the Bohai Sea (BHS), China, is severely afflicted by due to rapid economic and social development over the last forty years. For sustainable nutrients management in the BHS, comprehensive budgets for Nitrogen (N) and Phosphorus (P) was characterized in 2017, and the relative contributions of river input, submarine fresh groundwater discharge, atmospheric deposition, sediment diffusion, and exchange with the Yellow Sea were quantified. The annual N and P fluxes into the BHS were 362 × 10 t and 10.4 × 10 t, respectively. The terrigenous N inputs occupied the highest proportion, while the largest P input was from sediment diffusion. The ratio of N:P was 77 for total external inputs, while that of the Yellow River was 680; both exceeded the Redfield ratio, indicating an imbalance in the nutrient structure and a P limitation in the BHS.

The BZ gas field is the first large gas field in the Bohai Sea of China, with reserves of 100 billion cubic meters. Its formal operation can greatly promote local green and low-carbon development. However, the condensate gas reservoir has characteristics such as a large burial depth, a steep temperature and pressure gradient, high condensate content, developed microfractures, and a small pressure difference between the surface and dew point.

The biogeochemical processes of organic matter exhibit notable variability and unpredictability in marginal seas. In this study, the abiologically and biologically driving effects on particulate organic matter (POM) and dissolved organic matter (DOM) were investigated in the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea of China, by introducing the cutting-edge network inference tool of deep learning. The concentration of particulate organic carbon (POC) was determined to characterize the status of POM, and the fractions and fluorescent properties of DOM were identified through 3D excitation-emission-matrix spectra (3D-EEM) combined parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC).

Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), an anthropogenic organic pollutant known for its persistence, resistance to degradation, and toxicity, has raised significant concerns about its potential ecological impacts. Zostera marina, a common submerged seagrass species in temperate offshore areas, is highly vulnerable to pollutant stressors. However, the impact of PFOA on Z.

Two new cembrane-derived tricyclic diterpenes belonging to the sarcophytin family, namely 4-hydroxy-chatancin () and sarcotoroid (), together with two known related ones ( and ), were isolated from the soft coral collected off Ximao Island in the South China Sea. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis, a quantum mechanical nuclear magnetic resonance (QM-NMR) method, a time-dependent density functional theory electronic circular dichroism (TDDFT-ECD) calculation, X-ray diffraction analysis, and comparison with the reported data in the literature. A plausible biosynthetic pathway of compounds - was proposed, involving undergoing a transannular Diels-Alder cycloaddition.
