Purpose: Currently available grading and classification systems for hemifacial spasm either rely on subjective assessments or are excessively intricate. Here, we make use of facial recognition and facial tracking technologies towards accurately grouping patients according to severity and characteristics of the spasms.

Methods: A retrospective review of our prospectively maintained preoperative videos database for hemifacial spasm was done.

Omics-driven onboarding of the carotenoid producing red yeast Xanthophyllomyces dendrorhous CBS 6938.

Appl Microbiol Biotechnol

December 2024

Life Sciences and Bioengineering Center, Department of Chemical Engineering, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, MA, USA.

Transcriptomics is a powerful approach for functional genomics and systems biology, yet it can also be used for genetic part discovery. Here, we derive constitutive and light-regulated promoters directly from transcriptomics data of the basidiomycete red yeast Xanthophyllomyces dendrorhous CBS 6938 (anamorph Phaffia rhodozyma) and use these promoters with other genetic elements to create a modular synthetic biology parts collection for this organism. EC-WAMI: Event Camera-Based Pose Optimization in Remote Sensing and Wide-Area Motion Imagery.

Sensors (Basel)

November 2024

Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Lab (AIRLab), Department of Computer Science, Saint Louis University, Saint Louis, MO 63103, USA.

In this paper, we present , the first successful application of neuromorphic for Wide-Area Motion Imagery (WAMI) and Remote Sensing (RS), showcasing their potential for advancing Structure-from-Motion (SfM) and 3D reconstruction across diverse imaging scenarios. ECs, which detect asynchronous pixel-level , offer key advantages over traditional frame-based sensors such as high temporal resolution, low power consumption, and resilience to dynamic lighting. These capabilities allow ECs to overcome challenges such as glare, uneven lighting, and low-light conditions that are common in aerial imaging and remote sensing, while also extending UAV flight endurance.

Background: Postpartum psychosis (PPP) is a psychiatric emergency that generally warrants acute inpatient care. PPP is marked by the sudden onset of affective and psychotic symptoms with a rapid deterioration in mental state. Evidence suggests that PPP is a discrete disorder on the bipolar disorder spectrum with a distinct treatment profile and prognosis.
